james_halligan-07005 I absolutely enjoyed this low budget movie.A great Bradbury story-line and genuinely scary moments....especially that moment underwater in the subway car when the nasty man eating mackerel looked to have done in the ice cool Ed Burns ....still get the shakes thinking about it . The idea that other species may have cross-bred and evolved just as intelligent as humans is very intriguing.I'd love to see this remade with the resources of say ...Fantastic Beasts ....wow.Turn a blind eye to the cheap production and enjoy the roller coaster.
Finfrosk86 What the hell is happening with this movie?!Alright, time travel! I love it. Super poor cg-effects? not so much.Let me break it down for ya real quick! A Sound of Thunder has kind of a decent story, it's almost original, not a too shabby take on time travel. Mixed with some Total Recall, and a little sprinkle of Jurassic Park. Ish.Here is the movies main problem. Horrible special effects. Now, I don't use words like horrible when describing special effect too often. I got thick skin when it comes to CG. But here? Oh my. There's some painful green screen here. The movie is set in the future, so when they are walking in the streets, backgrounds and cars are CG. And not in a good way. It's like TV-movie quality. Also some of the acting is pretty bad. But again the real problem is the CG, and special effects in general, damn. They are badly directed and badly made. It looks really low budget, but according to IMDb it's in the 50 mill range, so they really should be better.I think the director is just too old, and inexperienced with CG, thats my theory. But aside from the very bad CG effects, this is not that bad a movie. Got some good ideas.
TheMarwood A Sound of Thunder was collateral damage from the legendary bankruptcy of the scum production company Franchise Pictures, best known for inflating their film's budgets on paper, so partial investors end up paying for most of the budget. This was their final film with Warner Bros who obviously couldn't wait to terminate their contract, as this film is in unreleasable condition. It's a generic dumb as nails big budget film with no money shots because the visual effects are all pre- viz, which makes this look like Z grade Mystery Science Theater quality. Even if the effects were polished, it would still be weak with a boring lead performance from the always boring Edward Burns. But as it stands the effects are so hilariously awful they never let this movie rise above the bottom of the trash bin. Despite Franchise's money woes, neither them or Warner's felt this was a film worth finishing and you can't blame them.
thinker1691 The Late Ray Bradbury was said to have had the most creative mind since H. G . Wells, I would have to agree. From his fertile imagination comes this short story he wrote which was eventually entitle " A Sound of Thunder. " In order to understand what the title means, all one needs to do is watch this film. Bradbury tells the story set well into the future about a scientist named Travis Ryder (Edward Burns) who has completed a Time Travel machine which allows anyone to travel back into the period of the Dinosaurs, with the sole purpose of killing one of those unique creatures. The dangers of this futuristic machine which could have a profound effect on the history of Mankind, have been exhaustively explained by Sonia Rand, inventor of the time machine, (Catherine McCormack), but have largely been ignored. This oversight was due largely by the rich financier of the project, Charles Hatton (Ben Kingsley). The drama of this incredible film is due in part to the special effects crew which give excitement and terrifying believability to this frighting movie. The cast is remarkable and give an exceptional presence to this screen Gem. Hats off to Ben Kingsley for a convincing performance. Despite the many criticisms to the making of this movie, it's strongly recommended as a given Classic. Well done! ****
