Reviews

grnidgrl81 All these reviews I've read so far are from kids that got scarred for life or from anti-Christian views. Now first of I was one of those kids "forced" to watch this movie, though I never felt forced. I attended a Christian school and the whole school watched it together. Did this movie scare me? Hell yes I was about 6 or 7 when I watched this.. This movie is based on the book Revelations from the bible. It's basis starts that a pre-tribulation rapture occurs (if you are unfamiliar with that it basically means that the Christian people of the world will be taken from the earth before the start of the 7 years of tribulation). I would never recommend that you sit a child down to watch this movie, I don't really know what it is about it the visuals or the haunting feel, but it will scare just about any kid, especially if they come from a background of knowledge of the "End Times". The movie itself is done in a 70's theme, bell-bottoms and the whole bit. The acting is pretty bad. Though if you want to learn a little about what Christians think will happen in the not so distant future watch it. For those people saying this is a scare tactic movie for the Christian movement, I would say yes and no. In the movie if you accept Christ as your savior before the rapture, you are spared living through the 7 years of tribulation, but on the other hand; if you accept Christ after the tribulation you will be hunted down and killed. It was meant as a Christian movie. I believe those that don't have some knowledge of the Christian faith or have it themselves will just dog this movie because it is from that view. Though I'm not saying this is a great movie by any means, but it definitely was an interesting view especially when I watched it again as an adult.
harold-lanford The reason why people say that this movie scared them is because it did!! That means the movie purpose was felt by a few who did see it. When I first saw this Movie it scared me and made me think about life and religion. This is not a blood and gore scary type movie, but the kind that you would think that it may be possible for things to happen the way the movie was written. Of course non believers will say its only a sci-fi movie. Truth is, this movie is a must have for your thriller collection, even if it does have a religious view. If you are a fan of classic thrillers (Omen..etc) this is one of them and its a must have. I never saw the sequel (Distant Thunder), but I believe it picks up where this movie ends.
rdrsmail I remember watching these movies when I was a kid, and it was on a Saturday night at the Baptist Church. Of course it's campy and out dated, the acting sucks and looks like they spent all over $27 making it. But at the time I think it did what the producers were hoping. It got people thinking and talking about what the days before and after the Rapture of the Church would be like and what could be done to reach the lost. Not everybody who watches these movies even think twice about Christ. They just look at them as a campy budget flick. I have these all on DVD now and watch them every now and then, and I don't look at them as gloom and doom and depressing like some of you apparently do. They're just movies. I remember being a kid and watching them and they didn't scare the hell out of me. But I did wonder how close we were to the Rapture. Now, a bit older and a bit more ancient than I was way back when, I still enjoy the movies. But that's all they are. Movies. Take them for what they are. And if it bothers you that someone tried evangelizing through them, don't watch 'em.
Phil Chapman Funny - how we *embrace* the very network of computers (the Internet) they are calling "Satanic" in the film. Amazing how something is always alright when *we* do it.Well, they say this needs 10 lines of text, so here goes...I'm quite sure that, in the future, the "666" branding will be as indiscreet as the Internet - we all (including all Christians) will just *embrace* the way it is - not even knowing that we are accepting "the mark of the beast" - just as we have accepted that "evil" network of computers (the Internet).Funny - ALL churches and congregation have Internet access - even those who have seen this film. Now if THAT ain't "irony"...
