Reviews

Eugene Rasband This was a great movie. There are lessons on many levels. Mostly on the human relations level and relationships between humans and animals. I wondered if I would like it, but I really appreciated it. It isn't necessarily the type of movie I usually watch, but it was well worth the time. Redford, Lopez, and Freeman did great jobs in ringing their characters to life. All the "minor" characters were portrayed by the actors portraying them. I know Doug Seus; he has a great respect for the wilderness and the animals in it. He cares deeply about them and his and Lynne's efforts, I know, are appreciated by anyone who cares about the West and the problems facing this area. I'm sure that anyone viewing this film will come away from it feeling better about their viewing experience.
frog3404 Heart warming story of an abused woman,Lopez, who runs away from her jerk boyfriend and, with her daughter from a previous marriage, travel to Wyoming to befriend the woman's father-in-law,Redford, and her daughters grandfather. The film was actually shot in Canada. The clue to that was during the granddaughter's driving lesson. The pickup truck was a Mercury which is the ford version made in Canada. The woman's husband, who was the son of Redford, was killed in an auto accident which the father-in-law never forgave her for. Redford finally comes to grip with reality, thanks in part to his granddaughter, and accepts both daughter-in-law and granddaughter as part of his family Morgan Freeman plays Redford's friend and ranch hand who has been mauled by a bear. The best line of the movie comes at the end. Freeman says, "Would you bury me next to Grif." (dead son of Redford) Redford replies, "Don't you think you ought'a die first!"
alohahome I like movies that are willing to look into the soul and deal with the process of reconciliation and redemption of bitter and broken people and families. This beautifully filmed movie, shot in the lush Wyoming countryside (actually Canada), starts slow, than sneaks up on you with more meaning than you could possibly have anticipated. Old wounds die hard and unresolved guilt and blame takes its toll. This motion picture was released under the radar due to Miramax being bought by Disney. It was shelved for two years, then given a limited release, It's largely undiscovered but it does have something important to say. Not a perfect movie since there is no such thing, but it does push some deep buttons and it's worth owning a copy. Another keeper. Morgan Freeman plays a ranch hand who is bedridden due to a bear mauling and has his own demons to fight.
tina d This movie is the same as Robert Redford's movie " Ordinary Life ". The only difference is it's mid-west people, the dad is sad not the mom, the wife is to blame for the death not the brother, and they threw in the domestic violence with the boyfriend, a bear attack, and a kid. They acting of Jello was the same as usual with nostrils flaring throughout, Redford was the same person as in all his performances, Freeman was good as an injured person, and the kid was good with the emotional situations. The locations and the animals were nice. The scenery is the reason I would suggest to watch this movie, or if a person is into family drama. The bear has been in many films. I do like that the bear was able to continue on his way in the story.
