David Lord finds himself forced into the savage world of a modern gladiatorial arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses. The first time i watched Arena i really enjoyed it but sometimes another look at a film showcases more it's failure rather than it's greatness for example Samuel L. Jackson's perfomance wasn't that good, Kellan Lutz's as well and Nina Dobrev? What was the point on having her in the movie? I mean common. Arena showcases more on action and brutal death but it forgets a good script and a good direction. (3/10)

ARENA is a straight-to-video fight flick with a predictable storyline about a young man who is kidnapped and forced to fight to the death in an arena for the enjoyment of Internet audiences. The thing that spoils it is some really shabby direction from an inexperienced director best known for his work in the visual effects field. The various fight scenes, although very gruesome, are shot with stupid-looking filters and the like which robs the viewer's enjoyment and renders them near unwatchable. The rest of the film is familiar from beginning to end, with trite dialogue and tired performances. I've seen Kellan Lutz in a few things now and he fails to impress in all of them, while Samuel L. Jackson is only here to grab the paycheque. The only actors who seem to be trying are those in smaller roles, namely genre veterans Derek Mears and James Remar.

Soon after David's wife dies in a car accident he retreats to Mexico and he spends his time drowning his sorrow in bars. A woman witnesses his fighting skills and "takes" him to a world where he must fight to stay alive. He reaches to know the man in charge over there and makes a deal with him in so if he will win ten fights in a row it will be released. His only condition is that in the last fight his opponent to be "the executioner". the man that comes and cuts off the loser's head. Milla is his only friend over there, providing him food and takes care of his wounds after a battle. But will he survive all ten matches?I truly dislike movies that promote violence, also this kind that the show can be seen by everyone in the world and the audience cheers when they see the gruesome murders. Also our hero is very easy allured in the arms of another woman and this after very soon he lost his wife. Little details makes a difference and in this case it seems that for some peoples this picture is hard to view.

Godawful piece of crap direct to video flick that was somehow able to afford Samuel L. Jackson. Like a startlingly large amount of movies I watch, this is about an underground fighting tournament. Twilight sixth banana Kellan Lutz stars as a muscle-bound fireman who is kidnapped by hottie Katia Winter and dragged to an underground fighting ring where he's forced to fight to the death with other prisoners. One of them is played by Lost's Daniel Dae Kim. Jackson plays the ringleader. He has two sexy Asian ladies who follow him around everywhere. I know Sam Jackson has a reputation of doing anything for a bit of money - but I just don't see how something this schlocky could have afforded even him. It just boggles the mind that he probably wrapped this movie and walked straight to the set of The Avengers. Movies like this can be fun - look at Manborg, which I reviewed last week. That one probably was made for a quarter as much money, but it was inventive and it damn well knew it was stupid. This one is humorless and actually thinks it has something to say. What a crock.
