dbalaji I happened to watch this movie last week in the TV. I did not watch it by selection. Just at the time of switching on the TV, I found the movie running in a movie channel and the beginning scenes made me watch through the reminder of the movies The movie is about how a professor of arts in Spain, Daniel Marin, uses his students to steal old paintings of art. He plots to pass the blame on his Ex-class mate, Sandra Walker, an arts consultant. Ms.Sandra Walker and Bruce Walker are an estranged couple on the verge of a broken marriage after siring a daughter. Ms.Walker's Boss, Victor Boyd, a collector of arts is the kingpin behind all this heist and with his connivance the art heist happens. Attempts were made to pass the suspicion on a Russian collector, Maximov, who was seen as a rival by Victor Boyd. Ms.Walker gets into trouble when she tries to spy on Maximov. Ms.Walker herself becomes a suspect when some implanted faxes were found in her office and her bank account found to be credited with large sum of money Sarah's husband Bruce walker, himself a policeman, gets deep into the investigations and saves her wife and also their marriage The plot was good and so is the direction. I loved the movie D.BALAJI
kdmagnusson But it's certainly not very good either. Most of the acting is pretty flat, but I blame that more on the writers' incompetent dialog than on the actors' ability. Ellen Pompeo is pretty, but in such as way to be believable as an art history expert. The plot has enough twists to keep you guessing (and keep watching) and yet enough clues to help you figure it out. That said, it's still pretty trite and implausible. You do get to see some famous Barcelona landmarks, but the filmmakers haven't exploited their locale to the fullest. I thought the chase scenes were fairly well done, except that they all start looking the same after a while.All-in-all, I'd have to say that the current IMDb rating of 4.1 is fair; several of the reviews here give it a "1", which should be reserved to the worst movies of all time, which this certainly isn't.I picked up a used DVD copy at a local bookstore hoping to revisit Barcelona. In that sense, "Art Heist" was a bit of a disappointment. It's (barely) worth seeing if you have an interest in art history and in Barcelona and can see it for free, but for those really wanting a sense of this wonderful city, the best bet is "L'Auberge Espagnole".
erikstee Baldwin has really stooped low to make such movies. The script, the music, just about everything in this movie is a waste of time. The sound FX do not sound real, they stick out way too much (technical gadgets etc.) If they are trying to make a movie about things like this, at least try to get real with it and drop those extra bleeps and beeps, because those gadgets don't really make loud sounds like that. Natural sounds like footsteps and such are non-existent, which gives it a void-like atmosphere.Directing seems to be OK for such a low budget film (I sure hope it was a low budget production), although it does seem fairly amateurish at times. Most characters seem empty and false, they simply haven't casted this movie very well. I'd imagine it would've been a better idea to make Baldwin speak some Spanish than to make Spanish actors speak English, when we all know that theirs is the language which is more vibrant and alive, that is why the actors performance can suffer greatly if an odd language is used. I mean, could finally someone realise how stupid it sounds to make international actors speak English with a bad accent? It's should've a long ago buried corpse in movie production. The production team ever heard of subtitles? This movie again manages to depict European police as lazy and corrupt, the societies as vulnerable and helpless. I mean if the plot again goes like "The Interpol can't do jack, so let's call one American to bring down this international syndicate" or whatever.Sony Pictures treads on the same path as Columbia before it, just producing movies for the hell of it. I'd imagine them to have some self respect also. Are buyers supposed to buy every dirty title just because Sony puts out something good a few times a year?! Maybe they should've used the same team as who were making Di Que Si - Say I Do. It's spoken in Spanish and Paz Vega and Santi Millan do a decent job keeping the movie afloat. Looks and sounds much better! Come on Sony, wake up, produce less, sell more.
Comeuppance Reviews "Art Heist" feels like "The Return of Bruno" CD by Bruce Willis.I say that because the backup singers do most of the work. Just like William Baldwin, Abel Folk, and Ed Lauter do most of the work. Ellen Pompeo, like Willis, can't carry the heavy load of being the main character (or Singer). The script is a little weak and Pompeo makes it worse, with her dull line readings. Thank the Baldwin God, because William swoops down to save it. He plays Bruce Walker, a loose cannon cop who wants to stop Sandra (Pompeo) from getting too over her head. The action scenes are well filmed and William has dethroned Daniel as the sweatiest Baldwin, which is great! The last reviewer took this movie WAY too seriously. You're not supposed to think about this type of movie in that way.For more insanity, please visit: comeuppancereviews.com
