Jerry It's not Das Boot, it's not Der Untergang, but that's not what we're looking for here. A simply great mindless romp through all what's funny with German (and not only German) tourists everywhere. Clichés abound, come with an open mind and you're sure to enjoy this. "Wir sind doch immer noch in Deutschland." Priceless.
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Ballermann 6" is a German movie from 1997, so this one will have its 20th anniversary next year. The runtime here on IMDb says 95 minutes, but all the versions I found run considerably shorter, roughly 80 minutes namely. It is the second film (of so far 3) from the Tom Gerhardt / Hilmi Sözer film series in which they play two (nicely-speaking) very simple guys who are basically just interested in cars, female( breast)s and alcohol of course. Gerhardt is not only lead actor in here, but also writer and co-director. The other director is Gernot Roll, one of the finest cinematographers in German film history, but here he proves once again that directing is definitely not his strength. Then again, not even Spielberg could have directed a garbage script like this one here into a quality movie. I am tempted to call these Gerhardt/Sözer films live action versions of the Werner Beinhart movies. But as well as these work, it really only works as animation and not as live action. It certainly isn't helping either that Gerhardt's one (and only one) shtick gets repetitive so quickly. And it's never funny at all. The inclusion of cameos by known faces (to Germans) like Jürgen Drews (of course in a Ballermann film), Ottfried Fischer or Uwe Ochsenknecht elevates the material only slightly, maybe from 100% crap to 99% crap. In any case, this film never should have been made after how bad the first one was and even after this second film they did not understand it and made a third film (hopefully the last) not too long ago actually. This trilogy is probably the worst German film has come up with in terms of all the trilogies that have been made in over a century. Shame on you Tom Gerhardt! Something good about this film here? That it runs for 80 minutes only and that's the only thing. It still felt like 2.5 hours. Stay far far away.
adrianAKArosemarys_baby I was in the video rental store with my friends and one of them suggested to rent this movie, he said: "this is better than 'Hausmeister Krause'", a German sitcom which also stars Tom Gerhardt. Well, I had no problem with it as I think that 'Hausmeiter Krause' is hilarious but I didn't knew how horrible this movie would turn out. There are two beer addicts called Tommie and Mario, the latter who plays second fiddle most of the time but I didn't care about him because his acting was forgettable anyway. I paid more attention to Tom Gerhardt. To get a clue what his character is all about he is very similar to the Tommie character in the Hausmeister Krause sitcom but I have to sadly admit that this character fits more to an adolescent than some 40 year unemployed person because it seems unrealistic that someone this old can be so ridiculously stupid and the fact that this is unusual doesn't make it funny either. The gags mostly range from slap-stick to one-liners, unfortunately neither both of them are funny most of the time. The movie is so often over the top that many odd scenes occur most of the time. Both of the main characters jump from a beach party to an hotel to the kitchen of a restaurant to an arena etc. etc. with no logical explanation how they've got there at all just to get some cheap childish jokes in.So that more people watched the movie when it was in the theatres it has a big list of cameo appearances from German celebrities and actors; I still wonder how some of the more remarkable German actors could whore them out just to appear in this bad movie. At last I suggest anyone to skip this movie that contains sheer stupidness and watch the way funnier sitcom Hausmeister Krause.
fabchief it is definitely not a film worth to see. There would be many chances to make a good movie out of this theme, but they were all lost. Sorry but it´s obviously not too easy for germans to make a good film, where they can laugh about themselves. There are very good german comedies, like "Der bewegte Mann" but this one is simply not good
