I grew up reading Sci-Fi and still do. Some classic science movies are made to make us think while some, like this one, are made for entertainment. If you relax and enjoy the special effects you would like the movie too. If you begin to question how you think things should look after time or apply scientific reasoning to everything, you will hate it - like most did.
Leave the "Oh! That couldn't happen" thoughts out, lighten up, sit back and enjoy a good action movie like I did. I watch it every few months and still don't see why so many people trashed it, I really like it.

How does a movie like this even get made. The shots are all slanted at 45 degrees. the production design looks like crap, and the CGI is GOD AWFUL! John Travolta is WAY over the top in this movie. These aliens are supposed to be so advanced and smarter than us but they are all dumb ass'. One of the dumb scenes is the food scene. John Travolta wonders what food that human like the most. They assume that they like rats but the humans chose rats because they were starving. Honestly I could write so much for this but I want to keep it small. I do have to talk about the end where the aliens planet is blown up by one small bomb. Yeah the writing and story is that bad! Please stay away from this movie.

In my perfect world, there would be ratings for people who rate movies. I would very much like to be able to quickly access like-minded peoples' opinions of a movie that I am interested in watching. Is there an app for this already? Please direct me to it if there is so that I don't have to search thru this mindless bunch of people who give numerous 1 star reviews.
A clue; This is a 10 star rating system which is great if used properly. For example, you look and see a movie rated 7 or 8 or 9; all those #'s give you different nuanced, subtle feeling. If you get tired looking for a great movie, you start looking for anything over 5 and might settle even on a 5 if it was up your alley or had a favorite actor or two.
No way are you going to watch a 4 or lower unless it's a cult classic or a friend says you "gotta see it" for some crazy scene or theme. So if you don't like a movie give it a 3 or a 4 or even a 5 if you have a bit of an insight that someone with different tastes might like it. But to give a movie a 1 star@"?#
Reserve a 1 star the way that you should reserve a 10 star. Use it once or twice in your life and let it have an impact for yourself and the rest of us.

Never, I repeat, NEVER trust IMDB ratings OR reviews made by either professional critics or the average person, as well.Sadly, we have grown into a world of I want bigger-better-more-realistic-but-an-unrealistic/impossible-Fx/CGI-epic movie that leaves most movies lacking at the box office. Based on this premise, 90% of all action/adventure/fantasy/sci-fi movies are going to fall incredibly short.Okay...so I can't possibly deal with the short-sightedness of the idiots that claim that BE should have a 1-star rating. My recommendation is simply to look for films that have your fave actors in it. And if they've put our some pretty nice movies, trust that all future ones will be, at minimum, fairly enjoyable. As was this one...Hell, Travolta's sarcastic alien laugh, alone, is worth the watch. And his right-hand man Ker - Forest Whitaker - was played quite well. Was this an awesome film like Terminator (2), Gladiator, X-Men, etc.? No! But seriously, people...stop being so overly-critical and just enjoy the movie and what went into it. And seriously?!?...razzing on L. Ron Hubbard?!? Get real! I'd like to see you put out ANYTHING at a minimum at a 0.5-star rating for a film or book that even 1-5 of your closest friends could appreciate and then try critiquing a film like this.Okay, so what I'm saying...as critics, 99.9% of you suck at this, so NEVER quit your day job. And you professionals should never have started...your career is nearly over. :-)
