Michael O'Keefe Sometimes science fiction movies are so bad that they are pretty good; on the other hand some are just bad. Earthquakes and tsunamis are popping up in various sites around the world. It seems that ground zero is in a mountainous range in the northwest. Some hush-hush military underground testing may have awakened something of enormous size that has been living below the earth's surface for ages...yes, ages. It is a serious growing mystery and the rumbling Earth is not far from worldwide destruction. The cast features: Ed Quinn, Pascale Hutton, Jessica Parker Kennedy, William B. Davis and Cindy Busby.
highwaytourist The ScyFy Channel strikes again with another cheap science fiction thriller. This time, it's a legendary monster which lives deep under a volcano in the Pacific northwest. It has most of the clichés, including the usual stock characters & situations, and it never surprises. The script is more literate than typical for a film like this, which I applaud, but there is also too much filler material. Also, the title monster is not bad and I wish it had gotten more screen time. The best aspect is the beautiful scenery, but there are plenty of ways to see that without spending money on this film. It's just never exciting or interesting enough.
Leofwine_draca BEHEMOTH is a monster flick let down by its own shortcomings in terms of budget and originality. Yes, it's another SyFy Channel production, filmed on the cheap in Canada, that has flashes of decency amid an overwhelming number of strictly middling to poor moments. The storyline sees strange stirrings beneath the earth and mysterious levels of carbon dioxide rising from the crust. A team of investigators are soon on the case, as is a crazy old man who thinks that some mythical beastie is responsible. Inevitably it turns out that the old guy is right, and the heroes find themselves up against a massive monster from days gone by with plans to destroy the world. So far so ordinary, but the surprising thing here is that the CGI effects are actually decent; far better than in other SyFy movies or the likes of DRAGON WARS. That monster looks great, especially when straddling the mountain top! I wish it had played a greater part on screen, but it was still a welcome sight. Sadly the rest of the production is less impressive, with boring characters and indifferent acting; the only one who makes an effort is William B. Davis, he of THE X-FILES fame. There's far too much hiking and chatting and not enough monster action for my liking, leaving this a disappointment regardless.
Zapi Sisma First of all people gotta know that behemoth here doesn't look anything like behemoth in Heroes of Might and Magic III. One would think that is the definitive and cannon imagining of him. Here, he's a huge monster living under the whole Earth core, and he looks krakeny, only with a head of a fugly prehistoric bird. Like some other SyFy movies, the theme is ecological. Last year it was Wyvern being freed from the polar ice because of the global warming, this year behemoth is here to destroy the civilization cause people are bad to the planet. Ecology plus 2012. Actuality! We are being warned about this by the father of our hero, who is according to everyone crazy, but we don't really see it, and who is played by the cigarette smoking man from X Files. Our hero has a sister too old as his daughter might be, stubborn and half doable. His old love is here too being a geologist and wearing her shirt unbuttoned letting us see her lace underwear, and of course being sent to investigate weird seismological happenings. Atmosphere is OK, north north American half Northern Exposure, and they are constantly outdoors, which is generally great in SyFy movies, they're not constantly in boring headquarters and labs. It's a fun movie, but the production is better than usual with decant effects. But still when the behemoth shuts his mouth, the sound is that of hood being shut. Our hero is to phlegmatic and static. There was a scene of a proposal, and my eyes teared. Cool movie, big tentacles, earthquakes, monsters, random half black pussy Jessica Parker Kennedy.
