jarretttourigny This movie, truly was, the greatest movie I have ever seen. Everything about this movie is amazing and I congratulate Greg and Tommy on a job well done. The best part about it is that you don't even have to see or read The Room or The Disaster Artist to fully appreciate this movie. If you are only able to see one movie this year, I suggest you see this one. Or, if you can only see two movies this year, I suggest you see Volumes 1 and 2. I'm so happy that I got to meet Greg at the screening as well. He is super nice and I hope you get the chance to meet him10/10 would see again.
granoples I must urge anyone coming in to watch this film, to watch it with friends. I can describe this film as nothing more than the spiritual successor to the room, equally as fun to poke fun of and to laugh at. This movie is in no way an actual quality movie like some of the other reviews imply. This movie transcends that. This movie transcends all other movies by becoming something that almost seems to make fun of all films really. It has overtly modern aesthetics in their shots that seem all too familiar, but the spin Best F(r)iends adds to it is that it's god awful like just about all overtly modern cinema, It's just more in your face in Best F(r)iends. It's every move seems to make fun of reality as a whole as well, making fun of odd idiosyncrasies (like having weird purple lights in the front of a car) that you could see in real life, by giving them to Tommy Wiseau's character, who is just as outlandish as his choices. It accidentally but brilliantly pokes fun at so many things that feel oddly true just by putting it in one of the most outlandish contexts ever made. This also happens to be home to many new hilarious dialogue pieces. Not in a way that's entirely true to The Room-esque nonsense. This new film instead finds more subtly ridiculous unnatural ways to say something and then combines it with an explosively bad inflection of voice or awful performance to back it up "buh-LACK and white movies". It also adds an extra layer of uncanny by fooling you into thinking the next scene would be normal and human, by showing us the normal and human poses the actors make. This trick quickly turns and shows you that there is no true human element to this film, simply all the more frightening by demonstrating a mask, as if it wants to hide from you. Not scared hide, like hunting hide. This consistent motiff reminds you to keep your guard up no matter what. It is in my firm belief that the woodenness of Greg Sestero and the outlandish inhumanity of Tommy Wiseau makes for one of the greatest cinematic pairings of all time; and that they could do no wrong making the most ridiculous films ever. But don't be fooled, this is not a The Room copy. This is a lot more subtle, especially compared to the outlandish soup drama like quality to the room. This is rather a brilliant twist on modern film. DO NOT MISS THIS MOVIE.
timofthecrew On a technical level it feels like a sophomore student film. It's really not well shot in many scenes. But I'm going to say this movie was competently insane. I'd go on but I know that I couldn't put a review for this experience into actual words. 9/10.
jackcwelch23 I am well versed in the story of the Room and Greg Sestero's acting journey. I think it is fantastic that he not only has kept his acting dream from being completely extinguished by his association with the mother of all bad movies The Room, but managed to write and act in a gem that will hopefully open up the doors to him that seemed closed permanently. It is difficult to categorise this movie into a genre. It's funny, strange, scary and silly, frequently all at the same time. If you don't know much about the plot, it makes the experience far richer, the surprises are half the fun. Greg is very good, but his reluctant life partner Tommy Wiseau is, believe it or not, actually quite good as well. I have a feeling they didn't let him go full on tyrant on this set and let him run completely amok like he did back in '03. He more or less plays a version of himself, or at least similar to how Greg describes him in the disaster artist, and is a compelling guy to watch, despite looking like dawn of the dead at whatever his age is. The production value is good. The dialogue wasn't dubbed back in. I couldn't see any green screen rooftops and the dialogue is strange at time but not exactly "Oh Hi Mark" strange if you get my drift. Even if you know absolutely nothing about the story of these 2 men and just watch this movie like any other, you will still probably enjoy it. It's never boring or repetitive. In short, it looks pretty darn good.If you really are sick of movies, even the good ones, that follow a very recognisable formula and want something truly unique and unpredictable then this is for you. It left me scratching my head, wondering exactly what it was. That is the highest compliment I can pay to a movie. In the words of harmony Korine "Please just give me something different."Best Friends is about as different as Transformers is the same.
