Genghis Rees Anyone remember the old TV comedy Bewitched? This mess up has the same name and the same basic concept, but it is used as a vehicle for (this will make you laugh. Not) Will Ferrell! Yes, the story is not about a witch in the real world but about Will Ferrell failing to be funny. In fact the entire movie was not remotely amusing. I am not a big Nicole Kidman fan; she appears to have just one facial expression and uses it at every opportunity. This film might explain that expression - sort of confused incomprehension - since a role that maybe her agent (and the rest of us) thought would be the lead was torn away and the emphasis instead given to Ferrell (I can only think that he has some blackmail material on somebody important) to promote what should be a background character to be the lead. Want to know how bad this was - imagine a film being made of Breaking Bad with the lead role being taken by another teacher who never actually appeared in the original series.Dreadful.
Davis P Bewitched (2005) was kind of a let down in my personal opinion. This movie is just pretty bland most of the time. Nicole Kidman does actually do a good job as the lead, even though she doesn't have very good material to work with. Also, I really enjoyed Shirley Mclaine in the film, she gave a solid performance. Kristen Chenoweth was refreshing to see as well, and was perfectly cast for her role as the best friend. I wasn't a huge fan of Will Ferrell in this movie, I thought he went kind of over the top at times. The main issue I took with the movie was the lackluster script and the boring dialogue between the characters. This movie's comedy was alright, nothing all that great though. The actor's performances was really the silver lining in this movie, the performances could not save the film, but at least it was something fresh out of this mostly boring film. Also Steve carrel was fun in this movie, even though his appearance was short and sweet. So overall a 5/10 for Bewitched (2005).
Jessica Pollock (royal-rainbow) I made this account just to give this film a perfect rating. I was confused to see that it was universally panned at the age of 11, and after watching it again, I am equally confused today. I'm not fRICKIN JOKING, EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS PERFECT, the wardrobe, sets and cast are like A+++ and I laughed so hard tbh, Nicole Kidman is so cute in this role nd her American accent is so good. It made me wanna be a witch so bad, and the cast was perf, espesh Steve Carrell whose Uncle Arthur voice slayed my entire life. The CGI was weirdly good for 2005, AND THE SOUNDTRACK WAS SUCH A KILLER. Hello, Talking Heads, the Who, even the Police in the end credits. Why do you all hate this movie why are you doing this to me, please rewatch Bewitched and evaluate your lives.
WakenPayne Okay I really did not enjoy this movie. As someone who marginally watched the show I thought that a redoing of it for the big screen and for a new audience can be done if treated carefully. Good thing this movie has none of the original characters and recycles a plot line done to death completely to make this seem tired and stale.Okay so the story, Isabelle Bigelow (Nicole Kidman) is a witch that just wants to lead a normal life while her father (Michael Caine) doesn't approve or see why Isabelle doesn't want to get whatever she wants with a snap of the fingers. Meanwhile Jack (Will Ferrel) is an actor who's career is pretty much killed stone dead and he wants to revive it by being Darren on the remake show for Bewitched. They meet and he thinks she's good for the part of Samantha on the show while completely oblivious to the fact that she's a witch. It is then revealed that the show is going to be all about Darren and there is ABSOLUTELY NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FROM AUDIENCES OR CRITICS... I'll get back to this later and she decides to put a hex on Darren so he won't behave like a complete jackass. He then falls in love with her and then there's the scene where she reveals she's a witch then we devote ourselves to 20 minutes of moping and... YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THIS SCENE.Okay do I even need to say what's wrong with the movie? Okay how about Isabelle's only defining character is "I want to be normal" and yet she consistently uses magic when 5 minutes in she's trying to give up. Then there's reworking the plot to have it be about remaking Bewitched as a show and refocus it on Darren and nobody seems to mind in this world (Yeah, that sounds totally realistic and won't have rabid fans attacking it). It's boring, a complete waste of talented actors (and they act like they're totally devoid of life), not funny, not clever and apparently when everything is wrapped up it seems like it's not a big deal when Jack finds out that Isabelle put a hex on him which made him love her. Then there's the very predictable last half hour, It is pretty much the last half hour to every romantic comedy ever made and it feels about as full of life as that too.If you're a fan of Bewitched (which I'm not) then this is something to avoid. It has very little to do with the show and even if you've never seen the show everything about this is stale. I mean I guess if you've never seen the show and don't mind pretty much the same story that has been told over and over then there's a slight chance that you might like this, or if you absolutely adore everything that one of these actors has been in. If you aren't one of the people that falls into the category of what I've just said then you won't like it.
