This movie is remake of French movie 'Banlieue 13'. Can a remake worse than its first version? This movie showed that the answer is 'YES!'.This is his final movie but unfortunately Paul Walker is not as good as Cyril Raffaelli. It would have been better if Jason Statham played the role of Damien. I believe that he could be better than Paul Walker. David Belle played in both of the movies but even he was better in first version of the movie. Screenplay is nearly copy-paste. It has just little differences and I can say that Banlieue 13 has a better story and better scenes. However people who want to see an action movie may watch this movie. Not too long and not boring.By the way, RIP to Paul Walker.

Brick Mansions is an action flick staring Paul Walker and David Belle. The movie revolves around and interesting premise being that and undercover cop and an excon pair up together to take down a crime lord. That being said this movie is a remake. There are many underwhelming aspects of this film and it really struggles to provide any substance for viewers. The acting is poor for the most part although Walker is decent as a cop. The fight sequences and the scripting is cringe worthy and it displays a prime example of the template of a mindless action movie. There is very few character development if not none throughout the film as most of its scenes are action oriented. The movie is set in a dystopia and showcases that theme effectively to an extent but you never feel as though you are getting a grand scope of the world it is set place in. For all I could tell there were just corrupt cops and rampant crime rates in the city of Brick Mansions. Overall poor film, would not recommend seeing it.3/10

In case you are wondering, I did see several years ago the French movie "District B13", which is the original movie that lead to this remake. However, I have completely forgotten what it was like - though that fact does make it easier to judge this remake on its own terms instead of comparing it to the original. Despite this perspective, the movie just didn't do it for me. There is a strong whiff of the movie "Escape From New York" here, as well as to a lesser extent "Robocop" and other Hollywood movies, so there isn't a feeling of originality here. The script also suffers from the fact that neither the protagonists or antagonists are that compelling or particularly fleshed out. I know, I know - the script really doesn't matter in a movie like this. What matters is the action and other kinds of eye candy. Well, the movie doesn't do that well on those angles as well. The action (which is so-so at its best) is rapidly edited to try to hide the fact the actors can't pull off multiple moves in the same shot, and obvious stuntmen are used for the few trickier moments. And while the movie was a co-production between two countries (France and Canada), the movie often has a cheap look and feel to it. It's obvious why this movie did unspectacular business at the box office, though why the late Paul Walker apparently saw promise in this project is a question we may never learn the answer to.

If not compared to the original french movie DISTRICT 13, BRICK MANSIONS is a decent and highly entertaining action flick on it's own. If compared to DISTRICT B13 it's not as good but not as bad as people have been saying. This version's biggest problem mainly resides in it's casting. Paul Walker as Damien is actually okay, his only drawback is he doesn't exactly pull off the kind of moves Cyril Raffaelli does in his fight scenes. Which is something I don't consider one of the films major issues. In the case of the lead bad guy I'm pretty sure they could've found someone better than RZA to play the role. The problem with RZA is that he always looks like he's sleepwalks through every role I saw him play from the one in THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST to G.I JOE RETALIATION, and he sometimes sounds like he doesn't speak properly as if he always has a cold. All in all, aside from the flaws BRICK MANSIONS is a decent action flick if not compared to the original french film. Although in all honesty I do prefer DISTRICT B13 as well as it's sequel.
