This is a 80s movie about a TV news station. Maybe you expected some great investigation cases but here's it's not the subject : it's just about how competitive and seducing coworkers can do their job. I really like how this under pressure office can foster nice, close and genuine relationships between the team. However i don't understand why the movie is so dully written : characters don't talk clear and simple and after a time, it's really confusing ! The cast is great and Holly shows she can be a true manager. The faraway distant Nicholson is a funny add-on. At the end, even if the movie doesn't really delivers a hit, it's more entertaining than the dreadful « morning glory » that fails with everything the two movies share !

While Broadcast News was informational as far as journalistic value, the characters made it difficult to enjoy this. I loved how Jane acted a strong female lead in her work field, but found pretty much everything else she said annoying. I really liked Aaron at first, but his temper made him near unbearable towards the end. He practically threw a tantrum when Jane told him she was in love with Tom. And speaking of Tom, the fact that he never showed any kind of remorse for faking his emotion during the interview really made me dislike him as well. Despite this, Broadcast News was a good insight into the real world of journalism. It was a solid representation of what it's like to work in a newsroom with real deadlines and stress that this can bring to peoples' lives. It's a shame the three main characters were so unlikeable to draw away from this. Add in an unsatisfying ending, and it makes watching this movie very difficult.

We agreed that this movie had a lot of journalistic value. Jane, the main character, was very independent, which is inspiring not only to us but to others. She has an instinct for journalism and a deep respect for integrity within journalism. For example, when Tom pretended to cry during his date rape piece, Jane was offended and disgusted. As journalists today, we live in a world where the line between journalism and show business grows thinner with every story about the Kardashians. It was refreshing to see that a woman, just like us, not only cared about real news but cared about the people that the news is about, and her emphasis on honestly was inspiring. I'll definitely think about Jane and her strong convictions when I write my own stories. -Ellie & Erin

Thought the movie gave an interesting insight into the life of a news broadcast company and how hard the people work in it. I thought the characters were lively and entertaining and each one had his or her own personality. However, I thought the ending was pointless and was a real let down. I wish she would have ended up with one of them because the whole movie portrayed the love triangle playing out. I thought it was strange that they all just met up at the end 7 years later and she wasn't with either of the two men. I thought the movie was funny and made me try to process all of the work a news station had to put into making one little clip. They did a good job making the journalism setting look stressful but well worth it in the end. The actors were able to portray their character well. Overall, a good story with a bad ending.
