sol- Two men in financial woes share a wild evening with a wealthy couple who pay them to do increasingly dangerous and devious things in this deliciously twisted and at times downright disturbing thriller. Cited by some sources as a comedy, the film has some darkly comic moments, but it makes its boldest impression as a grueling drama as the two men (who were friends in high school) stoop to unexpected lows in order to win the challenges that the wealthy couple set. The question at the heart of the film is how much we would be prepared to debase and degrade ourselves for the sake of a financial gain. An aspect of the movie that does not work so well is the fact that we come to like one of the two old friends (a happily married father) much more than the other (a petty criminal). It would have been a far more dynamic film if we were position to root equally for both men and if they each had equally as pressing needs for money. That said, 'Cheap Thrills' is an entirely engrossing and gripping ride from start to end. All concerned deliver high quality performances and while the movie treads some uncomfortable territory, the thought-provoking screenplay renders this an easy film to appreciate.
SillyGayBoy I saw this after watching Nerve and 13 Sins due to similar concepts. For different reasons this one I loved and hated at the same time.I love the concept. It's simpler then other films like this. Someone is paying people for dares and... that's all I'll say.The acting and writing is well done.I like the indie and original film style. However I will say I ended up feeling terrible about picking this to watch with a sensitive significant others and it just got too dark for my taste.I have watched, and maybe looked away from parts, of many horror movies, depending on what it was. This just got too gross for me and I regretted watching it. Next time I come across something this sick I am using the fast forward button.
GUENOT PHILIPPE It is not another remake of the movie from Thailand, 13 SINS, which has already been made in USA. The topic is the same, yes, but this film is a rather efficient rip-off, with less action and bloody sequences, but a lot more realistic and far far more disturbing, because of the closeness to reality. It's definitely not a comedy, even a black comedy, but a real drama. Not crime, but a fair insane drama, not for all audiences. Do not watch it with friends whilst eating pop corn, because this film deserves far more than this. This is not a common Saturday night horror film. The beginning is long to glue you, that would be the only flaw of this remarkable feature.
mockfilmsblog When money gets tight how far are you willing to go for some quick cash? A new father faced with eviction and the sudden loss of his job finds out the hard way in the intensity dark comedy Cheap Thrills (2013), directed by E.L. Katz and written by David Chirchirillo and Trent Haaga. Shot in only twelve days, Cheap Thrills delivers the punches early for its main character Craig, played with a heavy sense of stoic inner turmoil by Pat Healy. The viewer is drawn quickly into Craig's situation, laying his woes before them in the first few scenes, leaving him plenty of time to be dragged along into the true depravity the film has in store.--Continue reading at: www.mockfilmsblog.com
