Rod Pickles The event opens episode two and it is obvious what is going to happen. It happens in nearly every western. There is a raid on a town by outlaws or Indians and all the townsfolk run out into the street and get shot or chopped down. Why not stay inside under cover? Use your gun to fire at the targets in the street and possibly survive! It is risible!Other than that annoying incident it is worth a watch but not as good as 'Lonesone Dove.'
jcoffland I just watched Lonesome Dove, Return To Lonesome Dove, Streets Of Laredo and Dead Man's Walk. All excellent. This sorry hunk of junk is cheaply done and poorly acted. In the previous series, Captain Call and Gus McCrae come off as tough respectable cowboys. Despite the fact that Caption Call is played by a different actor every time each one quickly won me over. In Dead Man's Walk the boys are believable as the younger versions of the experienced Texas rangers. In Comanche Moon they are just a couple of chubby rednecks. I had to stop watching.I suspect many of the glowing reviews for this show were written by the people who made this stinking pile. It's a sorry end to an otherwise great franchise.
sir_conrads Too much added with too much taken away from a great western that was written by McMurtry about the Texas Rangers vs. the Indian. This screenplay takes that away only to fill this mini series with a lot of warm fuzzy relationships that in truth were secondary to the main storyline. It ends with a totally unbelievable and detached ending not written in the book that makes you question how we are to be transported to Lonesome Dove. The series main characters were in truth cast very well, the filming locations were excellent, but this mini series should have stayed true to what is a great book.
bluesman-20 Comanche Moon takes us Ten years into the future Call and Gus are now approching middle age and Rangering is all they have known both men have two women waiting for them for Gus it's the love of his life Clara for Call it's a young whore named Maggie Tilton who is in love with Call both women want their men to give up Rangering but it's in their blood. Gus and Call are made Captains and their responsbilties increase. This puts a hardship on Gus and Clara's relationship as she wants him to give it up. For Call it's duty above else even above a woman who loves him. This tale could be called Bittersweet a love letter to a bygone age. Steve Zahn however amazed me he actually Channels Robert Duvall you can even see Duvall in Zahn's performance he acts like him so much it's uncanny. Karl Urban is easily one of the best Woodrow Call's ever portrayed his performance stands up to Tommy Lee Jones portrayal and maybe actually even betters it. What makes this movie so outstanding is the level of respect that comes across it's well down and is respectful to the book from which it is based on. Val Kilmer is excellent as Captain Scull making again a argument that he is simply one of the best in Hollywood today. Highly recommended highly enjoyable and well worth buying on DVD when it comes out.
