sugarprincess-93045 Cracks is cinematically beautiful. There is something almost magical about it and the color palette reminds me of The Secret Garden. When I watched the trailer I expected something very different but I think I was pleasantly surprised. The trailer presented it as very mysterious and almost frightening. Netlfix marketed it as "lesbian flick". It is much more than those things. I love movies that I can really dissect and analyze and find symbolism and deeper meanings like I am in literature class discussing a book. These are the best type of movies. This is where I was first introduced to Eva Green and it's my favorite performance of her's next to her work in Penny Dreadful. She is so enigmatic as the seemingly adventurous and admirable Miss G. All the actors do a superb job at convincing us that these characters are real people and not just people get paid to spit out lines. The ending left me thinking and reflecting for hours wanting to know more. It is a story of jealousy, admiration, fragility, fear, innocence, and above all desire. I could not help but to think of Lord of the Flies while watching it and having a light bulb go off in my head as to why it seemed familiar.
mpislak13 What attracted me to this movie was interesting storyline and Eva Green. And when story got slow and little bit boring, I kept watching it with my eyes wide open because of beautiful cinematography: scenes of nature (especially water), flowers; subliminal messages 'bout transience of time and rather life than death. First class cast did a great job of convincing the audience in credibility of their theatrics, and we all could have empathized with any of a girl in that private school - luckier with Fiamma, less lucky with other, poorer girls, and some of us (I'd say most of us) with a teacher, dreamer with her unfulfilled dreams which she weaves of stories from realistic fairies from all around the world. At the end, you can't decide who are you more sorry of. Luckily, movie provides enough empathy for every watcher. There are cracks in everyone, but only few can find courage in themselves, make metaphorical glue, and wait and see what happens next (with their reasonable desire(s)). Message Miss G thought us was that you should indeed turn your dreams into reality, because if you get stuck in the mold, every day you're procrastinating "getting out", it would be harder.. and you'll end up changing 5 things from your commode. Forever. And remember - chase your desires until they're not hurting someone else.
Francesca_3 A very nice person suggested me to transcribe, what I actually wrote on boards about this movie, as a review, so here we go. In the first place, I decided that this movie became one of my all-time favourites... and why is that I 'decided'? Because the more I thought of this movie after watching it, the more I liked it. And what I mean by that is, the main reason I loved this film, would probably be because of the feeling it generated on me. It felt like I was reading a book, an actual & good one, you know, because of its twists, its dramatic scenes and the complexity of its characters & emotions. I liked the way it explores human emotions and relationships but centered in a darker side, let's just say. The dichotomy showed was so well made. It was all so real and so unreal at the same time. Besides, it certainly shows us the thin line that exists between desire and obsession. PLUS, the fact that such things are still going on nowadays, which makes it very realistic. Even though I do know this movie is in fact based on a book, I can't really comment from that perspective since I didn't read it, but anyway that's not my point here... The way I see it, In my opinion, this film is so smart, intriguing, fascinating and so beautifully executed that not only will stay with you long afterwards but also will make you talk, comment about it with others, you know, and that's just simply the kind of movie I love to watch but unfortunately, there aren't enough films like this. In addition to that: The cinematography was just... breathtaking. The locations... esthetically pleasing. The soundtrack... impeccable. The wardrobe... simply gorgeous. And well, what to say about the actings? They were just... impressive, top-notch, especially Eva Green's one, which was jaw-dropping. She literally gave me the chills with her performance. She left me fascinated. That being said, Jordan Scott you are (ei) genius! Needless to say, I'm looking forward to see more of your work.
Mere Humsafar You will like the movie ..even if the film is rather thematic and arty..Photography is good, particularly the diving shots of the girls in the pristine lake.. the freshness and quiet beauty of the country side..the director certainly deserves credit for conveying very convincingly a particular aspect of love between two pairs of females - Miss G and Di and between Miss G. and Di - The suggestion of sexual attraction has been shown without indulging in crude nudity or crude language.. the loudest being " Don't make me beg." Eva Green,as Miss G,looks ravishing and has given a superb performance.. Maria Valverde as Fiamma looks cute and has done justice to the role and so has Juno Temple as Di..It is to be understood that movies with such themes cannot have a happy ending.. but the ending chosen by the director has reduced the weight of the otherwise artistic movie.. left open-ended, the appeal and effect would have been better ..I am not sure if the boarding school atmosphere is too bold at times.. Still a good movie, definitely for its precision
