When I come across an actor who clearly cares about their career (male or female), I make a point of watching films they have appeared in because I know that they will choose good material.Jensen Ackles (of Supernatural) is such an actor.I think everyone can say at one point or another that they have watched a film because of a certain actor / actress who stars in the film and I want to be clear that my reason on this occasion is not because I am a groupie.I have started off with this because of some reviews on the internet that include "the film's not so good but Jensen is easy on the eyes" etc. and I think that these statements are disrespectful to the many people who must have worked extremely hard to make this film (no disrespect to those reviewers, we are all entitled to our opinions). The plot is intriguing. The atmosphere of 'mystery' throughout is similar to the recent film Black Swan (2010) except I found this film more satisfying as entertainment. I am not a film-making expert so in layman's terms; the acting is good (not always perfect but never bad either), the relationships between the characters are believable if not always fully developed and the film had a strong beginning, middle and end. I found the film (and script) to have wit, intelligence and substance.I feel Dominique Swain deserves special mention as her acting was superb. I like actors who give more than needed and Dominique lifted her character from potentially being clichéd or one-dimensional to having depth and this is why I felt empathy for her - it was easy to connect.I have given the film 8 out of 10 because I like to rate films based on how entertained I was rather than how many negative aspects a film had compared with positive ones.Yes, the film has flaws. Some were (possibly) due to neglect (i.e. with the writing / directing etc.) and some are clearly just budgetary and I will not score a film lower for that because you know a film's limits before watching one which has a lower budget.Incidentally, a high budget was not needed and the film was shot in a professional way so you only really notice during a couple of special effects scenes which did not impact on my enjoyment.I did watch the film without expecting much and I accept that this can influence a person's enjoyment of a film but really, there is nothing wrong with it.Ultimately; a good script and an interesting mystery. Very happy I watched it.8/10

Well acted and shot snore-fest by director David Winkler, tells the story of a computer program linked to Satan himself. Basically just another psychological thriller with out much substance, the story sputters along at the same speed as sheep jumping over a fence. It does have some decent gore scenes, but they are too few and way too far in between, and chances are you will miss them due to the fact that you are sleeping, which makes "Devour" almost impossible to pay attention to. The plot involves a collage student who's (Bobby Brady-looking) best friend introduces him to a internet program (as a gift)that turns his dismal life upside down. Certainly not the worst premise, but it's slow pace makes it so boring that I actually fell asleep four times trying to make it through this. Perfect evening's viewing for anyone suffering from insomnia, as I found it more effective then NyQuil... Yawn.

OK i watched this movie with my boyfriend and we enjoyed it enormously. The special effects on the demon on the end weren't great but it still got the job done and you got the general idea that it was meant to be a evil creature, so that was good. One main thing i can say about the movie is when Jensen Ackles was reading through the script one thing that passed his mind could of been "Man, I'm going to get laid!" I think the whole storyline was confusing and especially the quote at the end from Jake "...Our child.." it had me confused. I think the actors and actresses did a great job on their characters, and Jensen Ackles shows a lot of promise. We noticed that in a few scenes he wears his brown leather jacket he wore in Supernatural and also Jake's uncles house is the place in Dead In The Water Episode 3. I really enjoyed this movie and walked away from it thinking "Dude, Jensen is hot!"

The movie revolves around a character named Jake Gray and his friends that have been playing a deadly game called "The Pathway", which eventually spirals out of control and threatens a worldwide epidemic of violence. After reading the plot outline and the cool cover art, I decided to give it a go. It starts off right away with the opening credits which plugs a fairly dire heavy rock / metal song in the background. It's the type of set-up that gets you thinking "Oh god, this is going to be lousy and look really cheap!" but alas the first half of the movie is the most entertaining. The story behind this film is interesting yet executed in a fairly poor manner. Basically, the devil communicates to others via the internet through an online game called "The Pathway" in which you give the site your phone number and apparently it can bring up your whole life's history. You then get phone calls asking you to do certain things, similar to sacrificing animals to your god. The problem with this movie is that it decides to put such a huge twist (a twist that is too complex for its own good) into the mix that really leaves you confused at the end. Though, once you've sat through the first hour of the movie and it all starts to become un-interesting, you won't really care before you get to see the twist. I know what you're thinking... "The devil using the internet? What the hell?" Yeah, I know. The devil / creature in the movie is similar to a cross between an alien (from the Alien movies) and Djinn (from the Wishmaster movies) but never talks and the screen is always shaken or blurred when you see the creature so you don't really get a good look. The best chance you'll have to get a decent view is near the end but like I said, you may be battling your eyes once you get there.Devour could have been really good and pulls you in for the first 30 minutes or so, but due to poor character backgrounds, a confusing story and the constant switch between horror and drama, it really is hard to make it worth your 90 minutes of viewing time.Ah, what the hell, go have a watch. It is a fairly well made movie for direct-to-video but that's no excuse to cut it some slack. The first half got me interested, the second half lost me. I'll be very surprised if your reaction is any different.
