nzswanny If you're going to see this film, expecting great special effects, just let me pause you for a second. This film has pretty bad special effects, I must say, and I don't think they will be very impressive to you, either. This film has every fantasy cliché in the book, which is the main flaw of this film basically. The whole plot line, the character's behaviour, the...DRAGON...it all makes up for a very cliché movie. I think the main reason some want to see it, though, is because the special effects may be good. They're not, so don't!This film is watchable, but it's still not really worth watching. If you had to watch it, you'd be able to, but I don't think you'd enjoy it. The music in this film wasn't very good either, and it was a bit cheesy. The pacing for the story goes by way too fast, and it's a bit hard to keep up with what's going on. I prefer steady pace in films, or a calming, patient pace, rather than a "QUICK, JUMP TO THE NEXT SCENE!" pace. This film is basically what you'd expect for a decent straight-to-DVD film. So, I recommend you don't watch this at the cinema (because the special effects are horrendous), and just watch it for free if you get a legal chance.Overall, I think that the film was watchable, but I won't be watching it again. 5.8/10.
Gwyll Gwyllin I really love this tale. I like the idea of dragons and riders, but the actor Ed Speleers was the worst choice. IMHO even Rowan Atkinson would better. He has charm in his smile but that's all good in him. He can't act and can't speak.Still ... Jeremy Irons, Sienna Guillory, Robert Carlyle and John Malkovich made the movie better. Jeremy Irons' almost rude, but wise style is frenetic. Robert Carlyle has many faces that very useful to be the main evil. Finally ... that texts are a bit annoying. Be careful, you be careful, no, you be careful ...That "7" goes to everybody, except Ed. He deserves 3.
Xerlientt I love the book, I really do, I know is not exactly a great book but is fun and it has good characters... not this movie... Is between my top 5 of worst adaptations ever and man do I hate this movie, for starters while the book had good characters and fun action to entertain people and forgive it for being too similar to Star Wars in regards of plot this movie goes full knock-off, being as similar to Star Wars as is possible and is so absurd! The Nintendo DS game is way closer to the source material and sorry but if a DS game is more faithful to a book than your movie... you did something really wrong. The acting for the most part is bad, Sienna Guillory, John Malkovich and Garrett Hedlund, man they don't even try and Ed Speelers as Eragon... terrible, just terrible, the only good performance in the entire movie is Jeremy Irons, he was perfect as Brom, as for story goes just like the movie is similar to Star Wars but again the movie goes full cheap knock-off, is as unoriginal and generic s Hollywood can get. The visual effects are amazing and Saphira looks gorgeous but visual effects don't make a good movie, I've said that many times by now and even the music was generic, Patrick Doyle, you are talented man but not even you tried with this film did you? This is simply a terrible adaptation in every way, the characters are nothing like in the books, their personalities and hell, even their physical look don't match the characters at all (Except for Brom) so in the end.... yes... what a let down I hope one day we can get a much better reboot made by a more capable studio and a more capable director with more capable actors
samiller1962 I know this movie was not up to the standards of Lord of the Rings or others in the quality. It may not have even followed the book. But if you watch it with an open mind and not comparing it to the best there is on the market, it is very entertaining. I for one would love to see a sequel. It frustrated me the way it ended. Wanted to know just how the evil king and his dragon would be defeated. People are just to hard on some of our movies these days. Look to be entertained, and stop picking them to death. There is not a movie out there that can stand up to opinions that are set on finding the bad in them. When there is so much good qualities about them. Most of the time I judge weather or not I go see a movie in the theaters. If the critics don't like it then it is most likely a good show. The more they like it the less the chances I will see it ever. That rule of thumb works very well for me.
