cinephile-27690 This is my 2nd favorite Kendrick Brothers movie, after Courageous. I did not see it until I was 16 though. I have a family friend who only mainly watches Christian movies and she was telling me about it when I spent a week with her. "You've seen Fireproof, right?" she asked. "No, actually." (shocked and excited) "You've never seen Fireproof?" "No. I think Mom and Dad used to own it but I never saw it." "Oh-we are watching that this week!" And because of that, I loved it. I got my own DVD of it and saw that DVD twice-once with my guardian. It was a fantastic look at how God wants us to live out our marriages. if you have not seen it, I definitely think you should!
dbjesuslover Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but I couldn't disagree more with HorrorWriter7493's opinion and "review". First of all, growing up in a Christian family doesn't make one Christian. We need more movies like this one in the media, and I am thankful that over the last decade, they are increasing. Watching this movie ten years ago, was like watching my real-life marriage unfold in front of me. It gave me hope that my husband could turn from his abusive ways, turn to God fully, and we could come out on top. Unfortunately, my bipolar, abusive, alcoholic, cussing-loving, belligerent and adulterous (ex)spouse was more interested in living his life with his spirits and how he wanted to live it (claiming the whole way that he was a Christian), than to actually change and turn in his baggage for true happiness. It is truly heart-breaking that people everyday are more willing to stay in their mess than to get freed and do the work to change for the better. I say that to say this, we have enough cussing, violence, horror in real life and in movies already. To say that these types of movies prey on Christians to "make money off of them", and that this movie is for those who "have not encountered anything truly wounding to them" is a gross misstatement. I have lived through some horrible times, and a terribly wounding marriage. I do not cuss, nor appreciate that type of language. I would much rather spend my money on movies like Fireproof, than on the movies that have cussing and worldly responses to life situations in them. I look to God to help me with life's decisions, and getting out of abuse was one of the biggest and hardest situations I have encountered. I already know the world's ideas of responding to situations, and do not need more movies like those that HorrorWriter indicated in his review - no thank you! This movie shows how life can be when we do the work and become free from our baggage.I loved this movie, and thought that everyone did an excellent job with their acting, especially for those who may have not acted before (or may not have acted in a mainstream movie before). I appreciated the non-worldly view of how to handle a difficult marriage, and God's options for deliverance, repentance, and reconciliation.
Wuchak Released in 2008, "Fireproof" is an inspirational drama about a couple from Georgia whose marriage is on the rocks. The husband, Caleb (Kirk Cameron), is a fireman with a hot temper and an addiction to internet porn whereas the wife, Catherine (Erin Bethea), is stressed due to her mother's medical issues and falling under the spell of a morally dubious doctor at work (Perry Revell). With divorce looming, Caleb's dad (Harris Malcom) encourages Caleb to hold off on divorce proceedings for 40 days with a "love dare" procedure. This is a compelling drama and genuinely inspirational to boot; it entertains while also inspiring without getting too preachy or heavy-handed, although some might argue that the ending's too sappy. Unless you're a devout atheist, you should enjoy "Fireproof" if you favor spiritual dramas akin to 1991's "Grand Canyon." But I encourage atheists to check it out too since it provides some food for thought. It's similar in tone and theme to 2010's "Cutback" and 2015's "War Room, although it has a bigger budget than the former and less than the latter. It only cost half a million to make (whereas "War Room" cost $3 million) and this explains some of the dubious acting of peripheral cast members, like the doctor, which is one of only a couple reasons I rate the film as I do. Nevertheless, this is a potent drama and even potentially life-changing. The situations are thoroughly realistic and I could relate to them all, whether through my own experiences or those of people I know. "Fireproof" had a very positive impact on me, like the two aforementioned movies. The film runs 118 minutes and was shot in Albany, Georgia.GRADE: Borderline B+ or A- (7.5/10 Stars)
Johan Dondokambey It's a nice Christian movie that tells its story without being overly or hyperbolically depended on notion of supernatural miracles, but by having to go through the process. One thing is quite bad for me is that the movie takes too much duration to up to about two hours. But I think the movie gets the length it takes to a good use by building on the characters well enough, even to the main supporting characters. Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea did quite an okay job. They give out expressions nicely though the body language doesn't really compensate much to the scenes' mood. I like how Ken Bevell did just enough to balance to perspectives for the story with his role.
