Scoopy Forever Mine is not a good movie. Many other reviewers on this site have pointed out why.But let's give credit where credit is due.Cinematographer John Bailey did a magnificent, Oscar-worthy job on this film! It looks great. The first half takes place in Miami in 1973. I lived in Miami in the early 70's, and this film caught the feel of it so beautifully that I could smell the Cafe Cubano, hear the Jai-Alai cheers, and feel the sea breezes. The pastels, the faded glory of the hotels, the neon lights, the whole palette.John Bailey can't be blamed for Forever Mine's script, or its legal problems, but the result of those problems must have been depressing for him because nobody ever saw Bailey's work projected on the big screen after the film festivals. That's really a shame. This film was meant to be projected in a 2.35 aspect ratio, and that simply can't be appreciated anywhere except a big screen. Of course, Bailey didn't know it would go straight-to-cable-and-DVD when he filmed it in that super widescreen ratio.By the way, this work was no isolated fluke for Mr. Bailey, as you might guess. He has never won an Oscar, or even a nomination, but he's shot some very fine films in his career. He probably should have been nominated for an Oscar for his work on The Big Chill, and he has shot some terrific offbeat stuff, like Cat People and Groundhog Day.So, a strong "well done" for Mr Bailey, for work that few people will ever see.
rezaul_nsu What can I say about this movie, when I see one of my favorite movies underrated? Are IMDb users not fond of romantic movies, or they do not review high of that kind of movies. This story might be simple, but emotional movies only need to provoke emotions. This movie definitely stirs romantic emotions. The acting was so good, actors were so emotional, actress was so romantic and beautiful, the duologue was such that you want to memorize. What do you expect after these from a romantic movie? Viewers searching for a pure romantic film, never miss it. Do not be mislead after seeing such a tiny IMDb score. The favorite duologue of this film is' You will never be loved the way I love you.'
elshikh4 It is (Gilda) meets (The Count of Monte Cristo). Watchable ? Yes. Effective ? Yes. Great ? Nay ! In fact Hollywood kind of kept itself far from this romantic melodrama since the 40s and the 50s. In the eastern half of the world these themes are still beloved, rather holy. Look at the Indian movies. They never get board of steamy love dreams, hard revenge stories, and fake white hair for the actors! This time writer director (Paul Schrader) tried to make a comeback. But why despite the actual, sometimes charming, gloss I felt that everything was dead predictable, being extremely clear-cut from miles away ? I believe not much of efforts were done to reform the pretty old characters. I didn't feel something revolutionary. And under the cloudy skies there was nothing but warm colors and some delicate dialog. The idea that neither the girl, nor her husband, identified the returning lead didn't convince me for a second. The make up, the hand's infirmity, the accent, and the hair color weren't enough I suppose. I thought that there must have been other powerful matters. The scene of "I want your wife" wasn't less unconvincing itself. The lead was facing a man who got to kill before due to his love, so threatening him this cheeky wasn't for the sake of anybody on one side, and wasn't quite the revenge that the character longed for on the other side. The movie's factors, especially the cinematography and the soundtrack, worked highly. The cast made a fine job, but why I thought of more charismatic stars to play these parts?! Maybe because this kind of icon stories don't demand lesser than icon actors. In terms of being captivating stars like (Glenn Ford, Rita Hayworth, Tyrone Power), this movie's ones seemed like the understudies. But you can't blame them for trying.Welcome to some portion of decent pure melodrama. I know that this movie will be cherished by a lot of young viewers who didn't use to experience black and white movies (or many Indian ones). But as for me, I enjoyed it as something to watch, and not to touch deeply or dazzle outwardly. It's a commercial movie, but it was lighter and less original than being as classic as its antecedents. It got magic. But not the magic.
Kristine I have to admit, I was looking for a romance movie. Why? I'm not sure. I have to figure it out first. Getting onto the movie, I was in the mood for this type of genre, so maybe that's why I kinda liked it.Joseph Fiennes, I have been seeing him quite often now. I have now seen 4 of his movies, and he is very sexy, I give him that. But he gets practically the same role in every film that I've seen him in. What's with the cheating on his spouse or making the girl leave her boyfriend for him? I... I... ah, well! In some ways I can see a girl leaving their ex behind for him. He does do a great job in the film.Ray Liotta, what a great bad guy! I've probably seen him in about 4 or 5 films, among one of my favorites "Goodfellas". He's an excellent actor who is very under rated. The problem is, again, stereotyping. He's always the villain. Even though he is a very good one at that, I'd like to see him in a different role. But his acting in here, more mob than insanely jealous husband. That girl, sorry, don't remember her name, she wasn't too bad. But she wasn't too convincing. In some ways the passion lacked a little on her side, she could've put more into being tossed between her husband and the man she truly loves. The story is actually very good. Even though not original, I wouldn't actually mind buying the film for a good price. It's nothing special, but it's a decent flick I would recommend.7/10-Almost there.
