cinemajesty Movie Review: "Gone In Sixty Seconds" (2000)Before "The Fast And The Furious" conquers the "Automotive" action-cinema for the years to come, starring ensemble including Academy-Award-winners Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and Robert Duvall, reprising a carácter-alike "Days of Thunder" (1990) from Harry Hogge to Otto Halliwell, to build a remake of a 1974 action-movie with Jerry Bruckheimer producing and 50-year-old Dominic Sena directing to entertain but not surprise in a simplistic storyline of hi-jacking 50 high-glossy sportive cars in one night of a major raid to bust out Nic Cage's film brother portrayed by Giovanni Ribisi, when his character's only objective becomes to cruise the 1971 customized Ford Mustang one last time at Southwest Marine roads of Los Angeles county to fulfill an action revenue at a price of a single occasion action car chase movie with no further depth put well-put production values thanks to cinematographer Paul Cameron and the production company executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer to Hollywood high-stand short-lived excellence.Copyright 2018 Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC
Tweekums Memphis Raines used to be a car thief, the best in the business, but now he has retired and living a quiet life. All that ends when his younger brother, Kip, agrees to steal a number of cars for a dangerous gangster and fails to deliver. If Memphis is to save Kip's life he will have to fulfil the contract and steal fifty prestige cars in seventy two hours. In that time he will have to get his old crew back together, locate all of the cars in the Los Angeles Area and plan how to take each one. The cops know he is back in town and as soon as the first car is reported stolen he knows the heat will be on… so he decides they will steal them all in on night! If you want a film with lots of cars and plenty of action that isn't part of the ever expanding 'Fast and Furious' franchise then you could do a lot worse than this. There is a large cast, which includes quite a few familiar faces, but it is Nick Cage who dominates proceedings to such an extent that I found myself wanting to see a bit more of the other characters. He does a fine job as Memphis Raines. The first half of the film is an effective set up followed by the obligatory 'getting the band back together' as Memphis reassembles his old crew. The action then kicks off as they start stealing the cars. Some of these amusing, others exciting. This all leads to an impressively over the top chase as he tries to deliver the final car before the deadline. Overall this is a pretty solid film; it might not be the best of its type but if you are a fan of the genre it is well worth watching.
delibebek 60 seconds, 60 seconds, 60 seconds… you missed the point, really. This isn't about stars, characters, plot. The cars are your stars. I watched this version back to back with the original, and wow, there is really no comparison. This loose remake tried way too hard to re-think such a basic concept that didn't need so much re-thinking. The original was low-budget and high-speed, which worked. That's the movie it was. For this version to share a name with that version is akin to false advertising. This one was without a doubt low-speed and certain more high-budget than the original. Attempts at humor? Forced. Excitement about the illicit behavior of stealing cars? Not there. It is derivative, not of its source material, but of various other heist-style films, by trying to find suspense in the behind-the-scenes drama of who ordered the car thefts and why and what was going to happen if the team didn't come through. Whatever. Let's just get some cars on the road and see 'em wreck! Check the original for a movie that lives up to its premise. This one is a vehicle for anything other than cars. (Yes, that's deliberately pointing to irony that wasn't intended by the filmmakers.)
Terryfan Here we go.Now I have been meaning to review this movie for some time now I'll do it while it may not be one of the best films ever made I'm one of those movie fans who looks past the junk and see the treasure. But this film is pretty fun to watch if you are into Cars like I am.The films centers around Memphis Raines (Nicolas Cage) trying to help his brother Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) by coming out of retirement after he was a master car thief to steal 50 cars for Raymond Calitri (Christopher Eccleston) or Kip will be killed. With Detective Roland Castlebeck (Delroy Lindo) and his partner Detective Drycoff (Timothy Olyphant) So Memphis turns to his old friends Otto Halliwell (Robert Duvall), Donny Astricky (Chi McBride) The Sphinx (Vinnie Jones), Sara 'Sway' Wayland (Angelina Jolie) while Kip turns to his friends Mirror Man (T.J. Cross), Tumbler (Scott Caan) Freb (James Duval) Toby (William Lee Scott). Now the plot is interesting to make you want to watch the film if you are into cars and action films The film is written clearly to be a film about action and it does have those moments and they actually have some knowledge on the cars they used in the film which is actually surprising. And they pick some very good cars to use in the film. There are some tense moments in the film that make you go did they just do that ? you have to watch and see what happens in the film to know what I'm talking about. The film was done to please car and action fans it actually did well for a change. My advice is to check it out you might be reward for watching a film with good car stunts.I give Gone In Sixty Seconds a 8 out of 10
