bobsharall GONE is the kind of film that has much more more happening than many of us want to know about. It is disguised simply as a film about an apparent nut who goes out and tries to right the wrongs that have been done to him and in his trek across the Philippines. While that may be true to an extent, read more into it and you can see a film that tries to show us that there is something terribly wrong with how we live. I wasn't alive in the 50's, in fact, I was born in the 70's. So I can't honestly tell you if life was easier back then. But what I can tell you is that times were a bit more simple then. For the most part, you had one income in the household. You had T.V and radio as your entertainment and kids went outside to play. Now you must have both parents working so you can have that double income. Kids are obsessed with the internet and videogames and so on. What does all of this have to with the film? Everything! GONE is about the decay in one man's life and how it affects not only him but those around him. There is one very powerful scene in the film that can sum up everything. The end is coming. Be Prepared!
petercook-310-678991 Having conquered the critics (and the box-office) with Fakin' Da Funk, Tim Chey could have "sold out" and kept delivering more of the same. Fortunately, he was wise enough to try different paths, and although all his movies can be classified as faith-based thrillers there's no real similarity between them, except maybe a common theme of alienation and solitude. This film is a clever idea, but one has to wonder if the ending was tacked on because the movie was getting too dark. The revelation at the end that everybody was the anti-Christ, feels something like hearing a joke that builds up for 5 minutes and ends with a silly pun. Anyhow, this is a classic film, and who knows, some people may like the ending, but in my view the final explanation is so weak that it brings the rating down from a 9.5 to a 8.
donnaw3 This is an incredibly powerful film. Awash with emotion but never stooping to sentimentality this is the story of three frightened lawyers you will never forget. All your worst childhood nightmares: the noises in the attic, the intruder in your house, that cold breath that makes your hair stand on end are here and then some.It has, in effect, created a new genre of filmmaking... the film is neither drama, nor horror, nor action. Rather, it is a seamless blending of all three, a Christian film that encompasses the best aspects of each genre, without being limited by the worst. Hollywood has taken notice of this, and one can only expect a series of poor imitations to follow. But at least they'll always have Gone to guide the way.
Johan Devenpeck (j-devenpeckjr) When I first saw the previews for this movie, it had me interested. A movie about guys who are left behind - it didn't seem to deep, but I thought it would provide entertainment. I had heard buzz about, a few of my friends raved about it for a few days, and I was convinced. I should see this movie. I went to my local video store and picked up the last remaining DVD. I popped it in, sat in amazement until the last credit rolled, and then watched it again. And again. And again. This movie is dark and disturbing, however, it is equally smart and stylistic. I found it hard to watch at points, but I couldn't turn my eyes away. GONE makes many bold statements against the modern consumer-driven society, and produces a tingling feeling- WHAT IF GOD ACTUALLY EXISTS?
