TheLittleSongbird There will be some who love Igor, and some who don't. I liked it, I have seen better animated films, but I have seen worse as well. The plot, despite a very intriguing concept, is rather formulaic and the film drags at times, but a lot compensates for any misgivings. There may be some who'd think Igor is too dark, I can understand, but I happened to like the dark tone the film sometimes had, it reminded me a little bit of the Gothic charm you'd find in a Tim Burton film. The animation is absolutely great, very bold and colourful while keeping to Igor's overall atmosphere, and the characters are quirky with an endearing protagonist and Scamper is very funny and devious. I also liked the ghoulish jokes and gags, and the film is smartly written generally. The vocal cast I can't fault either, John Cusack and John Cleese are both very likable, Molly Shannon like her character is very sweet-natured and Jennifer Coolidge's Heidi is hilarious, but Steve Buscemi as Scamper steals the show. Overall, a good film, not a great one but I don't consider it bad either. 7/10 Bethany Cox
Matt_Layden ...but the film fails to deliver on it's actually interesting premise. Igor is the sidekick to an evil scientist, we always get the evil scientist story, but never the story of the sidekick. This is where this film comes in. Igor, even though he is a sidekick, wants to be an evil scientist himself. Insert some humour that most kids won't get and some dark material that will scare them away, then you are left with an animated film that seemed to have lost it's target audience. It's also completely obvious they are trying to target the Tim Burton crowd as well, but it feels really third rate in terms of anything in that department. Igor is voiced by John Cusack, interesting choice. My problems with some animated films these days is that we no longer have voice actors in the lead roles, who are trained in this sort of thing, but any actor who is looking for a paycheck to just sit behind a microphone and speak the words from the script out loud. I found that Cusack is at fault here, despite everyone else in the film actually doing a decent job. The animation is nothing special. If looked at in comparison to other films, it looks very basic and that it belonged to the year 1998, not 2008. The dark and brooding atmosphere is not brooding enough, nor is it childish enough. It feels very boring and bland. Almost as if no effort was put into it. The writing is very bad and the script is below par. For a film that could have been filled with some funny jokes about the clichéd parts of this genre, it had none that made me laugh. The supporting characters are good, for adults, but not children. I think some kids might be scared that there is a suicidal bunny....even more scared when they find out it is voiced by Steve Buscemi. With so many good animated films out there, it's easy to close your eyes and blindly pick one up off the shelf that is better than Igor. It falls in the category of completely forgettable, with films like Valiant, Space Chimps, Fly Me To The Moon and others I can't even remember....because they are forgettable. I'm sure there are people who had no intention of seeing this. Consider this review as confirmation to those who were maybe a little interested, that you should just skip it.
shishir sharma This movie is way better than many animated movies released in 2008,this movie is imaginative ,creative and intelligent but sadly thrown in to the garbage by many critics , sometimes i don't understand why was this movie panned ,while other undeserving movies like bolt was a huge hit which was not at all funny ,had weak plot and i kind of found it to be poorly directed.Igor is a film which is funny has intelligent dialogues and doesn't lose it's track till the end. i would say suggest to people to buy the DVD take a bucket of popcorn ,and enjoy this delightful movie.i give this movie 7\10
Sherpakhan This movie should not have worked. It had fairly standard characters--the henchman who wants to be a great inventor, the bitter immortal, the stupid brain, the not-so-evil Frankenstein-esquire Monster. It had predictable gags, a clichéd plot, and voice actors that made it easy to tell who was the hero, who was the villain, and who was the comic relief. It was filled with puns that were absolute groaners. In any other movie, I would have shut off the television within the first ten minutes. But somehow, with this movie...it worked. The plot was comfortable and gave me a warm, cosy glow--while still somehow being unique and funny. Scamper and Brain (Brian) made me laugh until I almost cried, and when Igor and Eva interacted, I wanted to cry from happiness. Schadenfreude was an amazing villain. Dr. Glickenstein was, essentially, John Cleese, and Jay Leno made an excellent king. Yeah, the puns were still groaners, but somehow...they worked. And despite the fact that they set one up right from the very beginning of the movie, none of us who were watching the movie figured it out until they dropped the punchline on us. Several plot twists came out of nowhere, or we just didn't catch them. And the ending was just adorable. All in all, 10/10, and I recommend this movie to anyone. (By the way, I should mention that "we" who were watching this movie are juniors and seniors in college. This is a fun one for everybody.)
