joshfedderson I remember watching a little bit of the Inspector Gadget cartoons and liking them. But I'm afraid to say the movie is kind of a disappointment.I could tell the film makers tried to make it funny and likable but they overdid it and it ended up cheesy and sappy, sure I got some laughs out of it but it wasn't hooking. The story is about a goofy cop getting a complete make over and becoming a cyborg cop with a bunch of gizmo's and gadgets. Mathew Broderick deserves better he is a great actor and this film was bad for him. I remember seeing this as a kid in the theaters but now that I'm an adult it wasn't so appalling to me, little kids with love it, but adults might think otherwise. 6/10 for Inspector Gadget
Kirpianuscus to adapted a cartoon in film with real actors is always a challenge. and the success is surprising.but this film has not as ambition to be a successful one. in this case the great problem is to discover the purpose of story. an improvisation ? a joke ? a parody ? the only important thing, for me, is the presence of Rupert Everett and Matthew Broderick . the hard try to save a film about nothing or only a collection of clichés and gags in chaotic style. and this is not a real bad thing. but a sort of consolation. because you hopes to be a decent choice for the little children.
PeterMahoney1989 I grew up watching Inspector Gadget. It was, and still is, one of my favorite cartoons. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard they were making a live action version. Even better it was being done by Disney. So I had some pretty high hopes. But the film has ruined the reputation of the wonderful cartoon. The casting in my opinion was horrible. Mathew Broderick was a horrible choice to play the inspector. Even worse is when they tried to give him a love story. He was suppose to be a bumbling comedic idiot and they took all it away from him. But if anything, the one thing that was terrible about the movie was that it was a feature movie. Inspector Gadget was a silly Saturday morning cartoon. The movie was too serious, too overdone, had too much of a plot and wasn't even remotely as funny.Tip for those who haven't seen it: NEVER see it. EVER. Watch the cartoon, it's a true classic.
fullheadofsteam It is truly unfortunate that the rating for this movie on the IMDb website is so low. And the low reviews are by whom? Adults, of course! And that is precisely the problem. This movie was made for (shock, but yet a non-spoiler): kids! Here is the context in which you may perhaps best comprehend why this movie deserves a higher rating than that reflect at the IMDb site: I, as an adult, first saw this film with 2 other adults accompanying 2 kids, ages 13 and 8, in a theater loaded with kids (and many parents). All 3 of we adults found it entertaining, but that's not the true test...not only our 2 kids, ages 5 years apart, but the majority of all the other kids (and parents) in the theater wanted to, and did, stay to watch it again! Unless from another planet, mentally disengaged from real life, or otherwise impervious to observable fact, anyone should readily recognize that a bad movie cannot and does not captivate to the point that kids (AGAIN: the target audience) want to watch it again. And again. And again. So please don't let the IMDb overall vote, or negative reviews on this site by so-called adults, mislead. It is a terrific kids and family flick.
