investedinterest Recently I've become a huge fan of the Duplass brothers and usually I'm not a documentary person but having only read the Netflix summary, I gave this a shot. A song by Kevin is played during the opening credits and I was already looking up the title of the song at that point.Kevin is an inspirational soul and if you know anything about the Duplass brothers' other films, you'll easily see why they were drawn to Kevin. Not to spoil anything, he's just a very moving person. Very happy. Very talented. His story if intriguing and I was very interested to see inside his mind.I would most definitely recommend this quick documentary to anyone interested in music, any Duplass fans, or anyone just looking for a nice short, meaningful watch.
evamadelon I stumbled on this film on Netflix streaming. I had never heard of Kevin Gant or his music but the plot summary was intriguing and the time commitment (36 minutes) seemed very manageable. Turns out, I would have watched something much longer. Kevin is clearly a poet - every part of the way he talks, sings, even exercises is poetry. He's got a magical mysterious presence, such that you don't want to take your eyes off him even when he's just chatting away behind the steering wheel. The director clearly admires and respects Kevin; the story is presented with loving care and empathy for the man's struggles. The only thing preventing me from giving this a full 10/10 is the somewhat "student film" quality of the movie: pretty scenes should have been prettier, scary scenes should have been scarier. But definitely, still worth a watch.
leo's Videos I saw this film at off 2011 (Okanagan film fest) in Kelowna B.C Kevin came and played before the film which was a real treat, it was very cool how the whole thing was presented. As a Documentary, Kevin is very well put together, the right questions are asked and answered, Kevin's story is interesting and inspiring to watch. As a lover of unknown musicians I really appreciated the filmmakers dedication to the music of Kevin Gant. The music Kevin played is really something, He blends some styles of guitar playing that you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I bought and love the CD and strongly recommend that music lovers check out this film.
Jack Niedenthal I saw this film at the Columbia Gorge Film Festival in Vancouver, Washington in August of 2011. After viewing the film on opening night, Kevin played 2 songs. After the film showing Jay Duplass, the director of the film, had explained how, as a young man in film school in 1991, he had seen Kevin play and had instantly become a fan of Kevin Gant's very unusual music (Jimmy Hendrix dressed in a jogging outfit playing Flamingo guitar with New Age lyrics). The moment Kevin played his 2 songs after the film, I knew exactly what Jay was talking about. I was hooked. Bought his CD and kept it in the car player for days. Kevin's amazing personality carries us through this documentary. An outstanding film about an extraordinarily interesting personality that benefited both the subject and the film maker. I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed Kevin perform if for only 2 songs. Wow. Original. Unique. Motivational. Great film. Highly recommended.
