A completely unbelievable plot and I'm not referring to the phantom character but to the main characters who's lives are being portrayed. The men are of below average intelligence, obnoxious and foul-mouthed. The women are attractive, charming and intelligent. I can't imagine anyone enjoying this rubbish except maybe for teenage boys who find thuggish behavior exciting. One scene involves minor acts of violence accompanied by music appropriate for a slapstick film.Swearing in films doesn't normally bother me but the use of the "F" word is way over the top, used often and repeatedly. I know some people actually talk like this but if, like me, you would rather avoid these people, then avoid this film.As for Eric Cantona, the reason I watched this, his performance is acceptable (no swearing or violence). The film also contains some clips of him in action on the pitch and off.

Recap: Life is just not easy, to put it mildly. Especially for Eric, a lowly paid postman, with to troublesome teenage kids and decades old guilty conscience after having run out on his fiancé that just had given birth to their child. And finally he just snaps. His friends wants to help, and buys a self help book. He is supposed to imagine someone he loves, and speak to him. And from that moment, Eric Cantona, Eric's idol, appears in his life, giving advice. And Eric needs advice, because things are worse at home than he ever thought.Comments: A rather fun and interesting premise, but one that not quite delivers. I had expected a little more of a comedy, but instead it is a pretty good drama. A story of how one can find oneself and recreate oneself in the midst of a crisis. Pretty good acting as well, but it lacks something. Something to make me wonder what would happen next, to make me want to stay engaged with the movie.Cantona himself had quite a limited role, and not one that put him on the spot really. But he handled himself quite well, and might be given the chance to appear in movies again, hopefully in more challenging roles.5/10

Being an armchair Manchester United fan now for almost 20 years i had a lot of interest in seeing Ken Loachs' film when i first got wind of it.The presence of Eric Cantona still looms large over Old Trafford and indeed fans still sing his name to this day.In a way,watching Looking For Eric made me fall in love with Cantona and Manchester United all over again. This film does what all good fantasy films should do , it makes you feel good. We start the film with our central character in the depths of unhapiness and witness a transformation,thanks to life coaching by Eric Cantona (watch out Paul McKenna) . Cantona is a man with undeniable presence.Those who might sneer and scoff at his attempts to break in to the film world will be made to eat their words as Cantona brings every ounce of mysticism and humanity to his performance. It's true that it pays to know about Cantona and the impression he made upon the English game of football. In all the years since he has left the game, no one has quite replicated what he achieved. He will be remembered by Manchester United fans alongside greats like Best and Charlton and now also by movie fans for a touching and memorable performance in a film that deserves high praise.
