Moises Gumbs When you see it, you really have to wonder yourself: why did this become a movie? It's just a bunch of jokes (some very old) and strips with no logical relation, nor to each other neither to the story-line.It's true, you get to laugh and it carries a message. But it's not worthy to be on a movie theater because of that. Honestly, I think this was better of a screenplay for a TV-series.Dominican directors/producers persist in doing this "comedy movies" because they say "is the easiest way to develop the movie-industry in Dominican Republic" and "is easier to connect whit the audience". But they need get into account that, this same audience DOES see the other kind of movies. So it's not a new field of exploration. You can try hard on doing a good-quality/writing, real-actors movie, and PEOPLE WILL SEE IT.For instance we have very good examples, I think "The King of Najayo" is a marvelous big step-forward in the Dominican movie industry. It has a well define story line, the acting was almost flawless, and do not fall into mixing it with those every-day jokes.
Andres Hernandez Well guys the new Lotoman 2.0 is very very good! If you are looking for a having a great time enjoying comedy and getting great positive family messages at the same time this is my recommendation. We just came from the premiere and enjoyed a lot. And as I saw everybody was very happy at the end of the movie. These guys really worked hard with the camera, there's a lot of stunning scenes, good music, sound effects, the edition is great... So if you want to see the best movie made in Dominican Republic this work directed by Archie Lopez is right one.
urena-2 When you watch this movie: its cast, acting, story line, and you think you are going to watch something equivalent or competing with even a B-Hollywood style movie, you will be disappointed. However, if you are a Dominican, specially if you are a Dominican living abroad, this movie will seem like going back to your beloved motherland. And yes, though the acting and the story line are suspect at best, for us Dominicans, this comedy hits home. It makes you laugh and it makes you cry... it makes you be... well, a Dominican! Our customs, our values, our priorities, our crazy families, the "barrio", the "tigueres", the "motoristas", the girls with amazingly large "behinds", the Bachata, Merengue, our food... and so forth. It is all what makes Dominican Republic, Dominican Republic! Any suggestions made to the producers regarding improving the acting and the story line, should be seriously considered. There was a lot that could have been made different in this movie. Yet again, if you live the lives these two guys were living in, all this seems, well... "naturally Dominican" to you.So, for Dominican filmmaking, which is an endeavour that is still a work in progress, LotoMan gets a 7 for effort!Lic. Dawlin A. Ureña Montás
Rafael Rodriguez Lotoman is an example of films made for the race and without any cinematic approach. The story tells how two brothers move from very poor to millionaires to win the lottery and living situations in their new status of wealthy.Of the positive things the film worth mentioning is the performance of Alfonso Rodriguez gets into the character and makes it credible, on the other hand, the bottom line is acceptable, the bad thing is the way we have it all.The script is not clear, let other crazy situations with less sense and stay in the air. Raymond Pozo Miguel Cespedes show that there aren't movie stars, TV is your thing, the short comedy sketch and ready.Dominican Republic is a country that enjoys his comedians, supports his films, I think it is time for the national film producers support the Dominicans with a good movie as we deserve.Rafael Rodríguez Torres
