tkleeman This movie is an unrecognized masterpiece. It has been dismissed as a failed romantic comedy. It is in fact an marvelous exploration of the grief that accompanies the loss of a loved one. Both the protagonists in this drama have lost someone, and are initially fractured human beings, unable to deal with their own grief. They eventually find love only because they are able to confront their loss, acknowledge it, and move on to new experiences. Enjoyable as a romantic-comedy, but much more life-affirming and satisfying as a meditation upon death. It also contains a relatively positive depiction of the leader of a cult or new religion, which is rare in popular media. In this regard, it can be compared to the Taxing Woman (Marusa no onna) series of Itami Jūzō, which also featured detailed depictions of a new religion.
HarryGatley I enjoyed the movie up until that poor bird was released into the wild! Yes it is 2011 but I am going to investigate WHY THE PRODUCERS WERE NOT SUED? That was a hugely STUPID thing to show millions of people and the film should be BANNED worldwide! I fully intend to contact as many animal rights groups as I can because of the cruelty this propagates among ignorant viewers and I vow to do ALL that I can to bring suit to ban permanently worldwide this evil movie!Okay I have to add some lines. People release doves at weddings and other occasions and they all die horrible deaths. They are imprinted on HUMANS they are not able to fend for themselves. The animal release programs for endangered species has been a long and difficult program because imprinting on human makes them so unfit to hunt and breed!Besides that there is the fact that that species is a native of the tropics and it needs to be raised in the wild in the tropics to survive. The ignorance of the actors and the producers and screen play writers is appalling! There is supposed to be some oversight of cruelty to animals in Hollywood. How did you get away with that!I am shocked horrified and angry!
edwagreen This is basically a film dealing with people who are expert at giving advice but cannot deal with their own personal lives. In the film, Aaron Eckhart plays a widower who basically does grief seminars with people. His wife was killed in a tragic auto accident and the truth be told, he has not been totally forthcoming about the accident. While giving one of his seminars, he meets Jennifer Aniston, who has just broken up with her boyfriend, and you know where this is going. Martin Sheen plays his understanding father-in-law.There is generally not much going on between Aniston and Eckhart in this film.
mesmermann Ryan Burke (Aaron Eckhart) lost his wife in a car accident three years ago and wrote a book to get rid of his sorrow. The book was then released and has since held seminar for people who have worked their grief. When he returns to his former hometown of Seattle, he will hold a seminar. He is not so happy about it, because his former in-laws live there too. Burke's father (Martin Sheen) hates him because he makes money on his wife's death. But Burke does to help people. Then he meets a pretty flower girl Eloise (Jennifer Aniston), who live agents and decorate the hotel's beautiful flowers, and he is trying to invite her out, but it is not so little with her. He has not been out enjoying himself in three years. So when he comes out with Eloise, he tries to show her who he really is, but he has no inner demons to fight first. It is the most touching films I've seen in long time. Eckhart and Sheen play so well together that you start to cry over their scene (I did) because it was so touching. Aniston usually choose the more bad roles in movies like mean nothing. But then the role of Eloise and gave her a good career back in a bearing supporting role. Aniston is not doing much better when she plays the main role, she gives it more of a supporting role. Through the film we see Eckhart help a man go through his grief, as the cost to him everything. The scenes are very beautiful and the movie never gets boring, you just get carried away. There are no scenes that we can do without the film. This was Brandon Camps debut film and it was shame it did not come to the cinema (in Denmark).
