willnye-74430 So I was very hesitant to watch this movie because going into this movie I was expecting it so be like the crappy remake of Black Christmas but this movie was great, the CGI blood was not great in fact it's really obvious that it's not really there but it was 2009 what do you expect? The kills were awesome, the plot is easy to follow, and the killer doesn't end up being who you will expect it to be if you've seen the original.
Syo Kennex My Bloody Valentine is a 2009 horror film directed by Patrick Lussier, and written by numerous. Ten years after a bloody massacre that left 22 women, men and children dead, Tom returns to his hometown after witnessing the bloody attacks and almost being murdered himself. Upon his return, the same murders begin happening again, this time, targeting those that were present at the first massacre. Tom finds himself the prime suspect and must fight to prove his innocence. When I first saw this film advertised, back in 2009, I thought it was merely a rip off or a reboot of The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976). I never put much thought into it other than that, and didn't pay much attention to it, until today after my soulmate recommended it to me. I decided that, even if it was a bad film, it was something to watch and do whilst I cleaned the house.Instead, I ended up stuck to the couch, staring at my screen and trying to figure out what was going on, trying to follow the leads and the clues given to us, and just left in total awe. There's a really good story line in this with twists; you think you know who the killer is and then you're thrown for a loop. There's so many different routes this could have taken, it was brilliant to watch. It was a real adrenaline pumper, and honestly, other than the crappy CGI, I would have happily bought this film.Unfortunately, after an amazing ending scene, we are left with nothing explained, and the film being left on a cliff hanger. Personally, this annoyed me. I had many ideas as to why what happened did happen, but there was no explanation to any of it. It left it open, possible for a sequel, but with the context of the film, no decent sequel could have really been done. This was a real mood killer for me, and extremely annoying. After a very good film, I was left frustrated and confused, and this really ruined the film for me. A simple ten minutes afterwards, doing a summary of everything that happened, would have really worked well for this. The acting in this film was really well done, and Jensen Ackles is definitely an actor I am interested in, after seeing this. There were a few of his scenes that seemed a little overdone, but I feel that was more the cinematography in itself, rather than Ackles' acting. Jaime King is also an actress I would love to have a look at in more detail. Her acting in this really helped sell the film, and bring a bigger horror feel to it. Her acting left me with goosebumps, and had my heart thumping, experiencing her own terror on screen with her. Both leads, male and female, were absolutely spectacular, and I would love to see them lead another horror film in the future.Personally, I wish I had gone to see this when I came out, and seen it in 3D like it was meant to be seen in. I feel like this might have made me love it a little more, and maybe it would have been seven stars, but seeing it in 2D was good enough, in all honesty.Again, the only thing really about this was the ending, and it frustrated me so much, a film that I was going to give nine stars, ended up a six star review. This was a really good film, but the director and editor should have really looked more at the ending. It felt like the ending was rushed after it all, and I've said it before, but it was the most aggravating thing. All in all, it's a decent film, and I would recommend it to gore and psychological horror lovers, just not if you're one of those fans that really need a good ending to a film.
lewiskendell Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. Horrible. So many flaws, and I have so little desire to think about this movie enough to list them all. Here are my top 4 reasons for why I wanted my money back. 1. The 3-D aspect is completely wasted. There's no creativity at all. Be prepared to have guns pointed at you and to have pieces of eyeballs fly towards the screen. That's about it.2. Even the jump moments are repetitive. Each and every time, the characters are going to look over in one direction, and then....BAM! There's the killer. Every single time. Count on it.3. These are the absolute stupidest characters to ever be seen on screen. They would make a drunk 15-year-old seem like a genius in comparison.4. The "twist" ending. Ugh. Ugh.Do us all a favor, and don't give these "people" any more money. Who knows what kind of poo they will make next time, if they get the opportunity
DesertDogMedia Title: My Bloody ValentineCondensed Storyline: This is a remake of the 1981 movie of the same name. I am generally neutral to remakes and reboots mainly because I get to see the same movie more or less with better camera quality and different actors. Sometimes it is good like the Dredd reboot or sometimes it bad like the Total Recall remake. The plot is that an old man who killed his fellow miners wakes up and goes on a killing spree, targeting the teens in the old mine before just moving onto random victims. The police arrive and shoot Harry, who runs off into the mines deeper. But he seems to return 10 years later, just as Tom revisits the town. It then turns into a blame game with everyone accusing each other of being the killer. But as people get picked off one by one, you see the miner go after Tom. This leads everyone to believe the miner is Axel, but the surprise plot twist at the end reveals that Tom was diagnosed with a mental disorder and his split personality is the miner who is killing everyone. But I really enjoy the way that they do it so he isn't aware that he is doing any of it, yet an entire bar fight starts because he simply just walks into the bar. You can really sympathize with the character. They think they kill him, but in the end he is shown to have survived. Notable Acting: I liked the cast, not everyone equally. That is natural with movies, but every character I found annoying was killed so that made me happy. The main characters are relatable to an extent and are believable mostly. Along with the important point of me actually caring about what happened to them, I wanted Tom to survive and regardless of him being the killer, he did survive. Axel played the dick of a sheriff who is looking more shady as the movie progresses until it is clear that he isn't the miner. The two CONI having sex before they get killed is a bit of stale acting, but in saying that. When has porn or faked porn ever had good acting? But needless to say this keeps my favourite horror movie rule in tact, sex = death. We also get to see actual breasts along with full female nudity in the scene as well. There is until her and the midget get killed. Horror movies just keep giving more reason to be loved regardless of how cheesy many of them are. Noticeable Camera work: Nice focus pull of the bloody hand in the first hospital scene. We get two gems in the space of second between each other, in the mine scene when the CONI (Character of no importance) knocks his head and falls onto the floor we see a worms eye POV view followed by a POV shot, the cinematographer did a good job there. The main stable of the camera work is the cinematographer's amazing use of POV shots, along with incorporating them into other kinds of shots. Similar to their use of power position shots such as the worm's and bird's eye shots. We see a split screen on Tom and the miner while Tom is in the cage. Knowing that Tom is the miner allows you to see this from a new perspective as you can see it as Tom looking at his darker represented by the miner, this is made better by the fact that for the first part, the miner mimics Tom's moves. We also get a zoom in shot of Tom in the cage accompanied by the music spiking to rise the tension. One of the greatest pieces of editing I've seen has to be at the end when Tom is smashing out the light, as the light goes out you see the miner within the split second, this is simple but so damn effective and impressive. Graphics: To give you a bit of backstory about the events which lead up to the movie, we are given a comic/newspaper style intro with voice over. Those who read my review of Repo The Genetic Opera knows that I was very fond of his graphic in that movie, I am fond of it in this movie also. Even if it is only for the opening title scene. The mutilation effects are actually quite good, but it differs from a movie like Scream where it is just body stabbings, this move has pickaxes going through heads and knocking out eyes and all sorts.Costume: The blood dripping from the hand is less realistic however as once it drops you see it string slightly, blood behaves more like water in the sense that it drop without it's string trail. The actual costume of the miner is consisted of overalls, hosed gas mask and helmet with light on it. This does actually give the look of an old miner and the lenses of the gas mask are darkened so you can't see the eyes, holds similar to other horror movie villains who's face and eyes you cannot see. Dehumanizes them in a manor of speaking. The sound of the forced breathing through the mask adds to that, this can only make things better as this is one of my favourite horror movie killer costumes. Overall Feel: The heavy filtered breathing through the mask is made all the greater when it is accompanied by silence of everyone including most of the musical score. Just adds that sense of tension to an already suspenseful movie. His movie is also very creative for the ways it kills some characters, an example is where one CONI is killed by a shovel style decapitation. Simple, enjoyable coherent horror slasher movie. This is high if not at the top of my horror list. Low rating on IMDb is a shame.
