Neil So the girls are quizzed on the vintage of their wines, & of course all get the answers correct... except nobody identified the POISON contained therein ? This was my 1st 'action movie' from HK & I come away feeling pretty good.Along the way, you could see the differences between this and someone making it say, in the U.S With deaths of main characters along the way, that might not have been filmed. The 'puppet scene' I found a little disturbing, but I guess being my 1st I didn't know just what to expect. I will watch again. The idea of a collective of very young children stolen & trained for future assassination jobs is a nice idea, but again worrying :)
SnakesOnAnAfricanPlain What a godawfully hilarious film. Naked Weapon is a film where not one single person has been cast because of their acting abilities. The delivery of the stale dialogue is painful at times. Once you get past all the hot girls kicking arse, there's nothing else. Its ultimate sin is to take itself too seriously. The editing is a huge pile of gobshite. People dive through the air and just don't stop. Sometimes it seems like a spoof. One scene has two women diving over a sofa in slow motion, without it feeling like part of the fight. By the end the film just gives up, introducing a new antagonist, despite the obvious build up of the Madame M character. The final fight makes no sense, like a lot of the dialogue, as people balance on the heads of their opponents and spin round and around. Delightfully cheesy, and painfully bad in equal measure.
ferbs54 The title of this English-language, Hong Kong action flick, "Naked Weapon" (2002), may be a tad misleading. Though most of the gals in question here are undoubtedly quite dangerous customers, they nevertheless remain discreetly clothed, at least most of the time. The film, handsomely produced and directed with style to spare by Tony Ching Siu Tung, tells the story of Charlene, Katt and Jing, three kidnapped teenage girls who are the last survivors out of 40 at Madame M's six-year, private-island school for assassins. As a reward for their six years of grueling training, the girls are drugged, raped and sent out into the world to perform various hits for the good Madame, all the while being tracked by a dogged, Asian CIA agent. The film, I must say, though no John Woo thriller, does deliver the requisite goods. Thus, there are numerous over-the-top action sequences, many of them featuring spectacular swordsmanship, remarkable gunplay, and the antigravitic, bullet-timed martial-arts acrobatics that will be familiar to "Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger" fans. The film's two main characters, Charlene and Katt--played, respectively, by Maggie Q (a relative of Suzie?) and Anya--are both extremely attractive performers, and for the most part are fairly credible in their action scenes. The sisterly relationship between the two gives the film its heart; fellow captives at first, they grow to truly care for each other as they enter womanhood. The picture is constantly throwing unexpected twists at the viewer--the free-for-all melee in the barracks that Madame M (deliciously played by Almen Wong) demands, for example, is one that I surely never saw coming. So yeah, the whole flick is something of a gas. Those who have already seen it will perhaps understand me when I say that the picture's net effect is quite, uh, spine tingling...
taxidriver_448 A word of warning: don't see this expecting intellectually challenging cinema. Naked Weapon is any man's wet dream- gorgeous female assassins go to exotic locations and take out high profile baddies (with mandatory sexy dancing before the kill). The action might seem a bit tame for hardcore kung-fu fans (lots of wires and floaty camera moves disguise lack of fighting talent on the actors' parts), but for those of who just want to see some mindless violence, it does the job nicely. Unfortunately the plot has no direction (one set piece after another), and the dialogue is laughably bad. Thankfully, the cheesy lines are so bad they are actually quite entertaining, and blend in nicely with the whole B-movie feel of the film.Far better than I expected- slick and escapist scenarios, high production values, and the action is great fun. I must however warn potential viewers that Daniel Wu is unspeakably bad as the earnest CIA guy on the tail of the killers- all he has to do is fill the audience in on the plot every now and again and get his ass kicked once. How hard can that be? Anyway, he messes that up nicely. To conclude, Naked Weapon is the perfect film if you've been out drinking, come home at about 2.00 in the morning, and want to see a film where brain power is not expected from the audience. Two thumbs up!
