Michael Ledo Jacob (Hayden Christensen) and Glenn (Nicolas Cage) are 12th century crusaders fighting in an unnamed city. Jacob can go into a beserker mode when he says, "God wills it" or when someone else says, "Kill him." Glenn is regretful about the crusades and opts to go East. The film then opens up in the East with some palace intrigue and a plot evolving like "Star Wars" where a princess and her brother flee from the Black Guards. They find assistance in Jacob, an opium addict, who still has his beserker mode working. The film is formulaic as you know exactly what the final fight will be. Cage haters can add this to their list of bad performances, one I would say was worse than "Left Behind." WOW! What was that accent supposed to be? Hayden Christenson started out with a strong accent and ended the film without one. Will work as a second tier rental.Guide: F-bomb near end. No sex or nudity
Emmi I picked this movie after running circles on Netflix. I'm in the middle of watching it now. Had no clue it would be intertwining several culture and historical ventures. It is overall a fun film to watch, similar to watching OTHER films that co-mingle culture/historical fiction story lines to form a cohesive plot with approx 2-4 main characters. I watched it for the pure entertainment value and looked it up on IMDb while watching. Who cares about all the political correctness, we watch films to be entertained not to criticize and critique it to death. There ARE MANY MANY poorly thrown together films and THIS ONE by FAR is NOT as sloppily done as So many of these crazy negative reviews imply. I've watched worse B-Sci-Fi films that were put together compared to this Outcast movie. Anyone ever heard of an actor called Sean Bean?????? Yeah, that man has played in EVERYTHING!!!!!!! Major box office hits, to some crappy CG dragon science fiction films. He is a well rounded actor who ENJOYS playing many roles and does not HAVE TO BE IN A 10 out of 10 Box Office Hit film 24/7 365 days a year. Give me a freaking break people please. This film "Outcast" is worth the watch. If you can get past all your personal film hang ups where LITERALLY EVERYTHING HAS TO BE JUST SO PERFECT, and on point in the FINITE DETAILS. I am reviewing this film because I am enjoying the plot. I'm enjoying the acting and the actors. If Sean Bean can make both 10 out of 10 Box office hits than turn around and do a B Sci- Fi films.... BECAUSE HE CAN AND HE ENJOYS HIS WORK NO MATTER WHAT, does not have to be On Top in a major film that gets 200% kudos for writing, directing, plot, screenplay etc etc etc...... Why can't OTHER ACTORS AND ACTRESSES DO THE SAME??????? Go ahead look up Sean Bean now, look at his filmography, bet a bunch of films he has acted in, you have never ever heard of; why because they are not Major Bedazzling Motion Pictures. With a perfect plot, a genius storyline, Perfect acting or even great screen play or even half way decent CG effects or fighting sequences/battle scenes, with pristine polished dialogue. Give this movie a chance, its fun regardless of how choppy or unseemingly it might appear. There are in fact much worse films out there..... this ain't one of them.
george walters I don't even know where to begin to review this movie. I knew it would be bad from the trailers but nothing had prepared me for this. My brother really wanted to give this one a try for a good laugh so we thought "why not".First you should know it is NOT a Nicholas Cage movie, unlike what the posters / trailers show. He's barely present on screen. Hayden Christensen however takes the lead and you see him in 90% of the movie. His stupid soccer player haircut coupled with his absolutely absurd accent makes the movie unwatchable. Cage's accent isn't even better. I don't know what they were both shooting for but it almost makes me regret having actors use an Irish / British accent for Crusade - Medieval movies. The action is set somewhere in China but most of the Asian actors had an indistinctive American accent, save for that one child with a very South London accent (for no reason). It was more than immersion breaking. Not a single character is useful to the plot. The action scenes are poorly made and I admit I fell asleep 5-6 times, my brother had to wake me up. He actually fell asleep before the movie ended. Please, this movie isn't one that is "so bad it's good". It's so bad you'll fall asleep. Avoid at all costs
yukinokourei To start of with, this film is terribly awful, and bless such English accent, it is not well adjusted to each of its Asian player - it feels off and extremely weird. Quite disappointed of how the film turned out, it lack of the ability of story-telling, basically, every scenes does not fit on a precise time-line, it's all messed up (like the one when Jacob back to Lian and Zhao, when the scenes shows them on run to hide, where? and how did they get the horses? They didn't explain this, it should have been a short explanation yet, the film didn't). The fighting scenes was not cut to be exist, how I would really like if the scene when Nicolas Cage tried to fend of the black guards were made to be more epic, y'know, that scene, is very boring. It's like, it was made in messed up plot to make Nicolas Cage's Character die (more like a rushed scene that supposed from my view, without that scene, it will be fine). Anyway, Hayden Christensen's fighthing scene with Shing was awful... The first time i saw Jacob's (a.k.a Hayden) sword, I was like 'ooo... this sword looks heavy' and when he fight with Shing, I was expecting a good fight but no - it was simply horrible. Dual blade and long sword battle? it should have been an "epic" fight but, this fight was rushed to be finished quick. Shing looks so "majestic and arrogant" at first, same at the fight but what, he's dead - just by a stab (a really deep stab). Each of the character have poor background story, having east and west being combined is already a terrible idea and now the characters. The kingdom itself (where Zhao, Lian and Shing came from) was not clear, like, normally there would be name (depends on what time-line does the kingdom existed) and it seems to be forced, from west heading to east, the film does not explained the year which makes this whole film have a very poor setting. All you can see is that, they are escaping, with a (suddenly) pop-up designated area. English accent, (this makes me regretted for watching this film), why don't just let the Asian be for what they are. Like, HEY! THEY COME FROM THE EAST, NOT WEST! Plus, from my view, back then, even a well educated royals doesn't speak English (especially) that fluently (I do not discriminate anyone here, I am talking about the film here, please do not misunderstand for what I speak of) All the west + east is horrible, then there's the English accent, sometimes, if you blink an eye, you wouldn't suspect anything - everything seems fine. But, when you listen while watching carefully, you will find that the character's talking were off from the rod, they way they talk did not match their voice tone. Like Lian's, her voice was so soft and light, and sometimes did not match the dialogue she was talking in particular scene while Xiaoli's were much like an adult rather than a kid. (If this was made by casting, I would say, there is no need for it, it is much enjoyable to hear as what they are)Lastly, maybe they should learn to organize scenes, everything were jumbled. The King's death, like it was designed to inflict conflict of whether who's fit to be in the throne. Meeting the white ghost (a.k.a Nicolas Cage) at the mountains, seems like it was created to extend the story further like, temporary shelter and help. Do the followers of white ghost were made for nothing? They seems to appear for a sec and die at the next plus, May, she's dead for "nothing", all those followers seems to be placed as a figure and lack of their own background story.
