Mihai Toma After the war between humans and vampires ended, both sides were sealed in hermetic places, where theoretically, there was no escape. Priests were highly-trained vampire killing "machines", in service of the church and sworn protectors of humanity. Lucy, one of the priests' niece has been kidnapped by vampires, so in order to save her, he must break his vow and leave the city, leaving it vulnerable to vampires who were planning something really big for humankind. It has a fantastic world, with a grade of sci-fi which I liked a lot. It reminds me of "Equilibrium", another movie with similar characteristics and plot. The action sequences were absolutely superb alongside a good story which keep you thrilled and excited all the time. It's a great movie but unfortunately, its course of events are a bit too linear and predictable for my taste while the ending is a bit disappointing but I'm glad they left room for a sequel. A must see!
GL84 After learning of his daughter's abduction by a gang of vicious vampires, a priest defies the local clergy and sets out with several friends to stop her while also running across the slew of creatures attempting to enact the vampires' far more deadly plan in the process. For the most part, this one was far better than it had any right to be. One of the film's best features is its absolutely great pace for the most part here as it's basically like an Action film in how it plays out with all sorts of scenes featuring them out hunting in the wasteland hunting, stalking and combating all the various creatures. By basically engaging in fighting with the various vampires all the time all over the place, this makes for some good times in offering some exciting sequences from the first big brawl in the desert compound where the vampiric creatures begin crawling out of the underground pit and begin acrobatically jumping around to avoid the battle to a stellar confrontation in their underground hive with the monstrous pet creature along the pit where the two of them team up to bring the creature down. Other great action scenes, from the attack on the workers on the outskirts of town to the surprisingly fun rampage through town with a lot of fun attacks and battles going on off to the sidelines of the scene which lets this one get really exciting. That builds up into the finale on the train which gets really exciting here with the desert bike chases, the brawling on the train and all the different individual battles with the vampires left alive make for some frantic and rather exciting setups which end the film on a high-note. That these elements are so much a huge part of this one, along with the design of the creatures and a higher body count than expected which all boosted this considerably. While these make for a much-better-than-expected effort, it does have some big flaws since this started off on a sour note with the hampering rating and a far more vicious and brutal comic-book style animation than what would be shown in the movie proper to open the film. Beyond that, the film's biggest issue is that the vampire lead is pretty much non-existent and not much of a threat since this one deals more on them chasing him down so his plot is a little underdeveloped and really seems shoehorned into the proceedings to keep the film going despite being somewhat clever in concept. He's somewhat weak in general as there's not a whole lot of scenes here featuring him to get his plan out and there's just a few moments to really learn his powers so overall he rates pretty low overall here. The only other issue here is the rather blatant and obvious CGI that is featured throughout here, which really manages to stick out quite heavily with the creatures and the high-energy action scenes which all look quite symptomatic of the overly CGI make-up that's featured here. Otherwise, there's not a whole lot else wrong here.Rated PG-13: Violence and Language.
SanteeFats Set some where in what appears is a post apocalyptic future after a war between vampires and humans has ended in an apparent victory for the humans through the use of a vampire fighting sect of the church called Priests. Once victory seems achieved the Priests are no longer needed and are discarded, placed in very menial jobs if they can find anything at all. Just like the history of the Catholic church of our world. One surviving Priest disobeys the edicts of the church when his brother and his wife are slaughtered in a vampire raid and his niece, oops his daughter, is stolen. She is stolen to do just what has occurred. Turns out a Priest has been turned by a queen vampire. Another Priestess joins him and stops a train full of vampires and larvae(?) by blowing it off the tracks. This wipes out the vampire threat for now. In the end, while the church hierarchy ignores the threat, the remaining Priests get the word out and are to meet at a certain point. Will there be a sequel, I hope so.
compressionheadartcore I initially went into this moving WANTING to like it but also NOT EXPECTING it to be able to cover everything in the graphic novels. Many aspects of the novels where naturally left out. At the time of the movies release 16 volumes of the manga had been released so it would be unreasonable to assume it all be stuck into one movie without feeling cramped like Raimi's Spider-Man 3. However, the over all style felt like a departure from what comes out of the books. Mixed with everything left out it began to feel almost as if a different movie should have been the end goal. The setting of the movie has more of a dystopian future feel rather than the old western feel of the books, the books also cover periods of time much longer past. If you are unfamiliar with Min-Woo Hyung's managa series I feel you may be more inclined to like this movie. Being a fan, having expectations , seeing the departure in style and potential story aspects left behind left a lot for me to be desired. Being the movie didn't do well enough there most likely will never be a sequel to flesh the story out better.
