Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Puss n' Toots" is an American 7-minute cartoon from 1942, so this one has its 75th anniversary this year. The title as well as the inclusion of Lillian Randolph and this being another Hanna Barbera production makes clear that we have another Tom and Jerry cartoon at hand here. Tom's owner receives a cute female kitty and you can imagine Tom's reaction to that. Jerry is no longer interesting except when he is intended as a gift for the new cat. It's always interesting how effortlessly Tom catches Jerry in certain situations. Anyway, there is some decent fun here, even if it is probably nowhere near my favorite T&J works. Items include a record player and others. This is also an early T&J work, which you usually (in here too) see from Tom's character animation. Eventually Jerry develops an unlikely attraction here too. All in all, this one gets a thumbs-up from me, a cautious one though.
Michael_Elliott Puss n' Toots (1942) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Tom turns into a wolf when a female cat shows up at his house so he puts on the act of a "cool" cat by showing the female the various tricks he can do at the expense of Jerry. PUSS N' TOOTS was the weakest in the series up to this point. It was less than a year old but after a couple great shorts this one here took a step back. That's not to say there wasn't anything fun here because that's certainly not the case but there's no question that this one doesn't feature as much action or laughs. The highlight of the film would be when Tom is getting ready to impress his woman by trying to fix his hair and make himself feel good. The tricks done with Jerry really aren't that funny and there's really a lack of action going on as well.
Otavio-clubpenguin I wish I could rate it 7 and half, anyways, this cartoon is introducing us to the Tom and Jerry that we know. Scenes such as Tom turning into a wolf, or a Cupid hitting an arrow on Tom. But as a lot of people said around here, it's more cute than hilarious, my friend (that is a girl), reacted with "Ownnt", "It's so cute!", "I Wanna hug them", and the list goes on. So I think that this episode females will like it more than males. The Story is that someone brought a female cat(Her name is Toots, by the way) to Mammy take care of her for some time. Tom sees Toots and fall in love with her, so he does a lot of tricks to impress Toots, using Jerry, of course. Jerry doesn't like it, and the fight starts. But a thing is, the fight between them starts only at the half of the cartoon. And to be honest, it isn't that much, it's only Jerry throwing some discs at Tom and that's it. But the adorable scenes, such as Tom doing magic tricks to Toots can be a little fun to see, you don't get a chuckle, but a smile appears on your face.I recommend you to give it a watch, specially if you are a female.
Shawn Watson Tom is playing with Jerry (not that Jerry is having fun) by dropping him in a spherical glass vase and watching him struggle to climb out. When Mammy-Two-Shoes (dubbed to be less-offensive in my version) answers the door, Tom chucks Jerry into a filing cabinet under 'M' and spies on what the big deal is.Mammy-Two-Shoes has agreed to look after a neighbor's kitty while they're gone for the day. It just so happens to be a female kitty that Tom falls instantly in love with. He tries everything to impress her, only for her to respond with a bewildered expression. Finally he pulls Jerry out of the filing cabinet in an attempt to show off the tricks they've practiced together. Jerry, not to pleased with this, turns the tables on Tom and makes an idiot out of him. And Jerry is the one who ends up getting the girl. Not too funny, but not too boring. Lacks bite.
