How bad is this movie? When it appeared in the video stores only a few weeks after flaming out in theatres, I remember they had a big cut-out of the duo handing from the roof of the local video store.I turned to my friend, who had seen it with me, and stated rhetorically how bad it was. He didn't remember the movie. It took several minutes of explaining the "plot" before he remembered seeing it with me.It was *that* bad. So bad that it not only erased itself from your memory as you walked out of the theatre, but put up active blocks to prevent you from remembering it, just in case. What is that bad? Everything! The acting is utterly hopeless, the action scenes poorly scripted, dumb dialog, jokes so overly-telegraphed that Mel Brooks would blush, and an absolutely moronic plot that I suspect the writers thought was oh-so-clever.Then there's a shoot-out, the end.Uggg.

James Belushi plays a tough CIA agent saddled with John Ritter who bears a striking resemblance to one of his fellow agents who was killed before he could give a glass of water to the aliens so that they would give us the special package to stop the destruction of all life on earth in five years. Yeah, it's a comedy. John Ritter is perfect as the fool, nobody does it better. The bit where he thinks pointing at the bad guys while saying bang is killing them is a good example. The problem is the direction, the pacing is way off. There is too much time between punchline and payoff. It leaves the audience too much time to notice the absurdity of the plot, which wouldn't matter if the plot zipped by. Reality doesn't matter as much in comedy. This is fun to watch every once and awhile, but it's no Airplane! or Young Frankenstein.Nick * "You have a good sense of humor. I like that in a guy." * Bob "What do you like in a girl?" * Nick "Big tits."

Earlier in the movie Bob asks Nick why the glass has to be a special presidential glass and Nick tells him that it's for publicity. When the spacemen travel around with it, America will get publicity. But at the end of the movie after the spaceman drinks the water, he gives Bob the glass back. Not much publicity will happen if the YUFO'S don't have the glass. I figured this was the biggest 'goof' because it was a mess-up in the all-around plot of the movie. One of my favorite flicks by the way. Not known NEARLY as widely as it deserves to be. John Ritter's acting is amazing. Belushi is at his best. Also I find it brilliant that they had Dyanne Thorne from the Isla movies play Belushi's sex-changed, war-veteran dad. So funny. My favorite line is probably after the Russian negotiator calls Bob a "Poor Slovnichski" (along those lines) when Nick asks her what kind of position to expect in the KGB if he gives up the map and the negotiator replies; "Colonel." then Bob butts in "No way! Nuh-uh. That's a deal-breaker! No. Forget it. The deal is off. Take a WALK-ski! I bust a gut every time.

Very funny from beginning to end! I watch this movie over and over and enjoy it more every time. It's great to see the friendship and bonding develop between Belushi and Ritter as the movie progresses. And just when you think they have finally bonded, Ritter will make a run for it. and Belushi will convince him to stay. Some of the best scenes are when Ritter finally realizes his purpose, and the skills he has learned, and puts them to work, and when he finally realizes his mission and takes it seriously. This movie is not only funny but also filled with lots of action.Watch for the scenes with Belushi's "dad" and when Ritter clobbers the milkman.
