REVOLTING AND DISGUSTING! DISGUSTIN AND REVOLTING!

The part I enjoyed most about this film is it's portrayal of how reasonable, intelligent can justify their own evil actions. They remind themselves that "if they didn't do it, someone else would", they argue it from a capitalist perspective - if we didn't enforce the rules, then no one would pay and this service couldn't exist. They support each other in their actions as shown in the bar scene where they use humor to cast their actions in a less serious light.**SPOILER** In addition, I thought the ending of the movie raises an interesting question about whether it really mattered that Remy was in a 'dream'. In other words, did Jake actually make Remy's life better by setting him up with that neuro device?I also had to give it -1 for the gratuitous gore.

Before I complain about how poor the plot, the acting, the score and the cinematography were, let me start with my main complaint: Why does there have to be so much gore and so many disgusting scenes in a science-fiction movie so much so that you'd need a barfing bag while watching it? Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of the horror genre and I enjoy watching occasional gory horror movies. The problem is I went into this movie expecting to see a science-fiction movie not a gore-fest. I had to fast forward many parts because they were completely out of place and belonged to the horror genre. I need to point out the fact that there's a difference between horror movies that aim to scare you and those that aim to disgust you. Sadly, this supposedly "science-fiction" movie falls into the latter category. My second complaint is about the pacing of the movie, which is too slow and boring. Oh and why isn't there a single good-looking actor in this movie? They are all unpleasant to look at apart from the black guy maybe. Couldn't they just pick a handsome guy to play the main role? I was really disappointed and if there were a zero rating I would've given it. This movie is ridiculously overrated. Avoid it like the plague.

After watching this movie I had the feeling that the original cut must have been like 1 hour longer. Only this could explain the complete lack of depth in character development. But unfortunately, not even this can explain the total mess the plot turned out to be. Ridiculous storyline to say the least, poor and absurd lines, a "love story" presented as "deep" but that was actually born out of nowhere, and a ridiculous gore/sex/love scene near the end with a soundtrack that only contributes for the whole "what the f*** did I just watch" feeling. The initial idea might have been good, but it was horribly put on screen. And no, not even the final twist made it any better. What a waste of time.
