RoboRabbit89 I will be honest, this film is not my favorite in the series, back when this was a new release on DVD in 2008, my buddy brought his DVD copy over and after seeing it I was let down by it, also I thought in a sweet nostalgic way it was going to be the end of the story. I was wrong.I was mainly disappointed with it because it doesn't really do anything different in terms of story, it's just more of the same, but in a new location this time the Nevada desert. Also it doesn't follow where the second film leaves off which always bugged me, even to this day. I really wanted to see the adventure that took place after the second film with the scientist's little girl. The story from this film and the three sequels on word is pretty lazy, the action scenes are OK but what really lacks is story. As of today I feel a little better about the film I still think it's weak but after seeing it more often the film grew on me. The story is honestly confusing because you don't really know what is going on it's kinda hard to explain without ruining the film. But the action scenes are alright, luckily it's fast paced enough not to be boring which it could have easily done.I give it a 5/10. Not the best but watchable. I'm at least glad Afterlife was better.
nachtlager-10229 This is the First movie in the complete rest line / Series of Resident Evil, who is not anymore Canon with the CGI Movies or the Games! The Real Character Movies themselfs are good. But they are only BASED ON! They have more and more nothing anymore to do with the True Game / CGI Story... Worst of all. Its a fact. That more or less, from this movie on is All about Alice. Leaving complete any logic behind.
Leofwine_draca You have to wonder when they'll ever stop making these films – not as long as the games are popular, I guess. Saying that, RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION is a step up on both previous entries in the computer games-turned-film franchise series, and a lot of the enjoyment comes from the involvement of Aussie director Russell Mulcahy, who brought us the likes of RAZORBACK and HIGHLANDER back in the 1980s. Mulcahy brings a certain level of finesse to the proceedings that wasn't present previously, and thankfully the rubbishy music has gone to be replaced by something resembling a normal score.Otherwise, it's business as usual, with shady scientific interludes cut together with frenetic action scenes and zombie-fighting fun. Sadly the film-makers feel the need to reference the other films (and games), so back are the skinless dogs and a creature that resembles the monster running around at the end of APOCALYPSE. The sole effort to do something new involves some undead in a stand-out set-piece that is only let down by some lacklustre CGI effects work. Elsewhere it's business as usual, with a definite MAD MAX 2 vibe going on, as a convoy of vehicles ride through a ruined landscape on their way to oblivion.Jovovich is back as the tough heroine, more taciturn and uninvolving than ever before. That may be because of a certain plot twist (the box gives it away) but I'm not convinced, and I'm sure it looks like her face has been digitally improved whenever it's on screen. Along with Jovovich, a couple of cast members return from the previous flick – Mike Epps and Bruce Campbell lookalike Oded Fehr – which adds some continuity to the proceedings. The desert locales look the part and there is at least ONE genuinely good action bit, a surprise zombie attack with a nice nihilistic edge to it which comes out of left field towards the film's climax. Sadly, the latter is utterly predictable – even bringing in those old lasers from the first film – to leave us with a completely loopy final scene which sets the way for a sequel that looks to be unfilmable. EXTINCTION is far from a good film, but I did find it to be an entertaining one, which is more than can be said for the last two offerings they brought us.
Tweekums Five years have passed since the events of the previous instalment of this zombie franchise. The T-Virus has spread around the planet; this has not only turned most of the population into zombies, it has also affected wildlife and caused almost global desertification. Alice is travelling alone through the American West where she meets up with a convoy of survivors just as they are being attacked by a giant flock of infected crows. She manages to help them but there are inevitably casualties. They find evidence suggesting that there are areas still unaffected by the T-Virus in Alaska but that is a long journey that will require a lot of fuel. With the smaller filling stations now drained they will have to brave the city of Las Vegas if they are to get the required fuel. While Alice is helping these survivors the Umbrella Corporation is still looking for her; Dr Isaacs needs her blood for his experiments to create a serum that will create tame zombies. He has also been working with clones of Alice which he tests to destruction. His schemes don't exactly go according to plan and he becomes infected after one of the 'improved' zombies he created bites him; he gets the antidote but mutates into a new more powerful creature; inevitable Alice will face him as the film reaches its climax.I think this film was a step up from the second in the series despite the absence of Valentine who seems to have gone AWOL since the end of the previous film. Things start well as we are introduced to Dr Isaacs' Alice clones in a scene that is so similar to the start of the first instalment that I wondered if I might have put the wrong disc in! When we get back to the real Alice it is quickly established that there are some survivors who are almost as dangerous as the zombies when she meets a family that behave as though they've just come off the set of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. That isn't the only film similarity; the convoy of survivors is an enjoyable nod to 'Mad Max 2' and the crow attack is clearly inspired by 'The Birds'. This scene is one of the best in the film as there is something inherently frightening about being attacked by something as common as a crow. The effects for this scene were pretty impressive. On the down side the creators' desire to take things to another level went a bit far; now Alice isn't just an awesome fighter, she has telekinetic powers and the final fight against the mutated Isaacs felt as though because this is based on a series of computer games it must end with a 'boss fight' against something much more dangerous than the regular zombies. The cast did a solid enough job, by now Milla Jovovich has almost become defined by her role as Alice and Iain Glen is pretty good as Isaacs. Overall this is a decent enough sequel with some great action and some nicely scary moments although you really need to have watched the earlier films, especially the first, to know what is going on.
