ccbo Time to think and reflect, time to ponder. Opportunity to reflect on the darkness of suffering hearts, feeling of misery and love slowly turning into madness - thats how it felt in smokey mountains, a classical greek tragedy, but with entangled stories!
jarbuck I've never seen a more severely distorted movie adaptation from a novel than with Serena. The saga written by Ron Rash paints a picture of a Serena we never see on screen. She is independent, fierce, and unsympathetic from the first scene in the book. She is always in control; if by chance something takes her off guard, she strikes back quickly. There's a reason the novel is simply called Serena, not George Pemberton's Wife has a Breakdown. To read it is to be intrigued by a multifaceted, engaging woman.
wmcg001 Serena is Hollywood at it's best. It doesn't disappoint from beginning to end. It's easy to follow, visually stunning and ends up being so suspenseful I was on the edge of my seat paralyzed and shaken up considering what could, would and did occur. Jennifer Lawrence makes me want to give her a kiss, however in Serena is it a kiss of death? She plays this complicated 1929 beauty with haunting reality. Bradly Cooper plays his part perfectly. He's a powerful presence whenever on screen. This guy is one of the best leading men around. He's a modern day Paul Newman, which brings to mind how this movie is much like big movies of Hollywood's "golden age." Movies with great actors starring in big movies I'd anticipate seeing at weekly outings to the "show." Seldom disappointed with what I experienced on the big screen. Serena is a movie of that caliber. My big screen is in the comfort of my home,Serena miraculously streamed. With a high quality, carefully crafted movie like Serena I am perhaps more satisfied with the movie's entertainment experience than back in the old days.
flynhi Beautiful, great acting, good story, twice as long as needed. I was wishing I had tevo and could skip all the ridiculously long stares at Jennifer Lawrence. The Czech Republic sure looks a lot like the Smokies - wish that $ could have been spent in the Smokies... Like my aunts in Ohio would say, "Geez oh crimene" IMDb is serious about keeping out rifraf from writing reviews! Just getting to where I contribute was like escaping from the Soviet Union! And now - they won't accept this unless it's at least ten lines. Ten lines!? Are they serious? What for? What if a movie isn't worth 10 lines? What if IMDb fans don't want 10 lines? No one at IMDb ever attended a writing class obviously. The rule is keeping out more good reviews than ensuring only high quality reviews. This is still just 9 lines. Where do we review IMDb and the 10 lines minimum?
