Frenzied, violent criminal associate Don Logan (Ben KIngsley) negotiates, and ultimately terrorizes, a happily retired safecracker Gary "Gal" Dove (Ray Winstone) for one last bank robbery. Does he accept?Jonathan Glazer blazes his way through this stylish, surrealistic gangster movie even though most of the film takes place at Gal's villa. Undeniably, the best moments are at the villa when Don screams, curses, and demands Gal for assistance in his scheme. Also, the bank robbery and airport scene stand out. What hasn't been said about Ben Kingsley's portray as Don Logan? It's pure dynamite and is the main recommendation for watching this film. Ray Winstone gives a tough and discreet performance. Although Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone provide stellar character portrayals, the film leaves a bad aftertaste. By bad aftertaste, I'm talking about the vicious sense of humor that is either an asset or hindrance to anyone viewing this film. To me, I find the comedy to be a hindrance because the humor relies on brutality, but is also deeply ironic. Mainly, the entertainment factor depends on personal preference. Same goes for the dream sequences. While the dream sequences give this film an edge in originality, the dreams sequences disturb the entire pacing and make the movie clumsy and odd.

Quite possibly the most unique gangster movie I've seen. The part of Don Logan expertly played by Ben Kingsley is easily one of the most intimidating characters ever captured on celluloid. It delivers lines of dialogue that you'll never forget not that you'd want to. It's an absolute perfectly titled film. Worth watching and re-watching to catch any of the little bits you might have missed.

Ignore the moronic review by "Tiggyboo"... who in typically shallow American hubris clearly doesn't get the genius of this film. A seductive, top-class, sopisticated, gratingly tense film, from any director.. however this is Glazer's first and it surpasses Guy Ritchie's stylised and humorous yet shallow efforts. Great photography, brilliant electronic soundtrack and an skilled cast. Nil By Mouth's Ray Winstone, and Ghandi's Ben Kingsley. Both are cleverly cast against type; Winstone is the quite Gal, a retired criminal living with his wife, mate and his mate's wife in a fun, sun-baked escape in Spain. Kingsley's psychopathic Don Logan drives a truck through the peace when arrives and orders Gal to go back to London for one last job. Kingsley is astounding, as his character psychologically tears the skin off Gal, his wife, their friends in a severity unseen in any of the so-called movie villains. Kingsley now joins that list in an unforgettable role in one of 2000's best movies. A solid, well-written, and as unpredictable plot as Don Logan could be.

cool film ray has never been so broken in a film as in this one & Ben has never been such a bad ass. and with a lady cast that has no better i wish i could swear but they will not let me . the dream stuff is right out of my darkest nightmares bloody wolf hell monster . and the soundtrack is great and there is just real looking great people ..i hate that i have to keep writing i have said what i have to say but know please pontificate on and on must have ten lines of me going off on one love to mum and family friends and film lovers all round the world ray's SCUM is fun too please see by all means no still not not happy his daughter is a great actor to
