Released in 2005, knowing now how Lee Daniels loves that edgy dark mysterious weird violent, sexual tones of film making, and with a great solid cast, I really loved this film! A solid thriller, hats off to Helen Mirren willing to take on such a controversial and sexy role! It shows the range of her abilities and willing to take chances! Besides all of that - I love the score. The music is great! Adding a very sensuous quality to a rather sexual (I don't find the film except in a few scenes with Helen and Cuba to be on the sensuous side) script.I appreciate some of the images Lee Daniels achieves especially in the opening sequences. The film is an expression of many talents. If you enjoy edge strange weird sexual violent off the wall entertainment, coming from a very interesting new talent (Lee Daniels) and if you are a fan of Helen Mirren, Cuba Gooding, other members of the cast - watch this film. Do remember there are some disturbingly violent moments in the film, and some sexual moments that are a bit tough too. But don't let that interfere with your decision.

This is a movie you love or hate. I loved it. First, the "preposterous plot." Helen Mirren is a gorgeous woman. I had no problem believing Cuba's character would desire her in addition to be utterly loyal to her and dependent on her). I liked that the story's time-line was longer than just about any kind of crime thriller you'd see these days. This is definitely not a popcorn movie, and you will find yourself shocked at the violence and then moved by the touching scenes. Nothing is exploitive or gratuitous in this film. The grisly violence, intense sexuality and touching interdependence of the characters serve to underscore just how absurdly varying a life (or lives) can be.I think sometimes moviegoers expect too much from film. Not every movie is A Streetcar Named Desire. There were important, fundamental themes in this movie - love, lust, loyalty, guilt, shame... all brilliantly conveyed by the actors. If you have a problem with imperfect plots, rent a documentary.

first of all this movie was a crappy mess maybe that is not the word I am looking for it just tries to shock but the comments on this movie are ridiculous because it is a wannabe gangster or whatever it is trying to be it is not put together well at all I mean Cuba gooding he was good in the 90's but now he just does not know what he is doing and stephen dorf who cares about him man he is shitty it is just ridiculous I mean you could watch el topo and that movie is hell of a lot better than this and more shocking too. Lee Daniels does not know what he is doing and anybody could make a better film using lesser actors. The actors in this movie should have known that this movie was a bunch of trash and they did it because of the paychecks but thats actors putting themselves in awful movies only if the money is good.

This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen that has genuine actors in it.Its not even so bad its laughable its just so bad, period. There are so many more movies to see before renting this god awful film. What were Helen Mirren and Cuba Gooding Jnr. thinking when they agreed to do this ? Must looked OK in script form. Rent any of these before renting this.....Tomb Raider2,Biker Boyz, anything with Whoopi Goldberg (that includes A Knight in Camelot but maybe not Sister Act II)Off now to watch Jaws 3, Dennis Quaid never made a bad movie ? Did he ??? Where's my copy of Zardoz.
