I rented Shadows in the Sun having missed it in the cinema's out here. Harvey Keitel, no comments needed, Claire Forlani I remembered from the great Meet Joe Black and Joshua Jackson, a face that rung a bell but not a very enthusiastic one. Here, Jackson has kindness but doesn't show the passion I expected to see in his face an body language. The wisdom quotes in the film didn't charm my sock off either. There is too much of a contrast between what the story wants to be - could be - and what the movie has become. What really is a pity is the photography that had the quality of a lesser TV-show, not grasping the real - more subtle yet raw - Italian light at all. Many of the scenes lacked imagination. Wagner Carelli from Brazil nicely said it has a lot of clichés. It is a real pity. With more work on the script, better photography and perhaps a simpler mise-en-scene it could have been a nice entertaining feature, maybe more.

We loved it. It's a love story and it's funny. It made us laugh. It's set in a beautiful Italian town and it's rich ingredients include love, comedy, growing up, an individual withdrawing from life and his fears, the business world and its interaction and effect upon real people and how the business world can sometimes fail to look at individuals lives and the paths they walk. The film, and what I liked about it, is it also contains a depth often missing in films and stories today. This film actually doesn't start as a love story, but evolves into one. And, it leaves you not just feeling happy inside, but also looking at life from different viewpoints and questioning the nature of life and the paths we all take. And yes, the film has a normal Hollywood ending.

It would seem that you just can't please some people if the last review of this movie I read is deemed to be correct. As I was unable to find this movie on DVD locally I bought it from overseas.I loved the story. OK, so it is a feel good movie, it doesn't contain violence, its not action packed and it won't give you the answers to life, the universe and everything, BUT it is a great movie for a rainy Sunday afternoon. It is filled with humour, wit and a touch of tenderness. It both puts a smile on your face and can bring a tear to the eye. The cinematography is beautiful, the actors are well cast, the dialogue snappy. Having watched this several times with friends and family, everyone has enjoyed it and its well worth the time.

I loved this film from the start, Keitel is wonderful as always, the rest of the cast is well played, the film is great if you a big fan of Harvey Keitel, the rest of the cast of just a good comedy! But some may find it boring. Frankly I loved the film!!! If you like Harvey Keitel this may be a good movie to watch for you, some parts of this film is not family scenes, so if you'd like to watch a nice happy family movie with nothing bad and no adult language this might not be the best movie to gather your kids around the television to watch. This film does contain some adult situations that might not be suitable for some peoples children, I do think this is a wonderful film but some may not like it.
