wiki119 The reviews got me, I got played. Sure, it shows how a Foster-Care Facility functions which could've been concluded in 5 minutes. The rest of it was absolute trash, No character development, No Plot or Drama just a bunch of overly zoomed-in shots on Poker faces and needless dialogues to fill in between. Sorry I can't sympathize with characters if I don't know how they feel. There are many movies that do better job depicting a disturbed childhood. What a disappointment.
merelyaninnuendo Short Term 12 It is not a pretentious or a misguided feature, which was easily possible considering the premise and such familiar genre features that quickly derails from its self-created track. The structure of the script may be familiar and follow a rudimentary process but it certainly isn't narrowed down to a typical climatic edge but breeds maturity whilst suffering and battling its own characters. Destin Daniel Cretton; the writer-director, surpasses its witty script through his brilliant execution skills and offers an adequate response to the raised questions in here. Brie Larson pulls off her role convincingly despite not getting the expected support from her supporting cast. It is short on technical aspects like sound department but is fulfilling in editing and its camera work which makes it pleasing to encounter as it keeps it light; contradict to its premise. The minor dilemma in here would be the priority of the character and its perspective that is kept above the plot track which bars the range of the feature a bit. Short Term 12 has a potential to not only run for a longer term but rule wiser and safer as it breeds smarter approach for the essential future generation.
TxMike We somehow missed this movie when it came out and now, looking for Brie Larson movies, we came across the DVD for this one at our public library. My wife and I watched it at home, we both enjoyed it as entertainment but also a good story about the difficulties of life for at-risk teens.Brie Larson is Grace, a 20-something working in this home of sorts for a dozen or so teens. When the teens make it to 18 they are able to leave and one character is about to achieve that milestone.Grace is in a relationship with one of the guys who also works there, they seem very compatible but it gets tense when she finds out she is pregnant, she doesn't know if she can handle it.It is a good movie and Larson is very authentic in her character. In some ways it is hard to watch because it comes across so realistically, and it is sad to know that real teens are having such difficulty in their transition to young adulthood.
Brazillian Everyone is extremely comfortable in their roles. You can go as far as saying Rami Malek is not and everyone else is acing it, but it is not true. This movie delivers the most heartfelt depiction of children victims of abuse and perfectly balance between heavy and lightweight content so you can enjoy and not feel like s#!7 going through all of it. It makes you look at everything through other lenses. It is not like a sad or happy ending, it is just a real ending.I was convinced that I had seen everything about reality in movies with other directors. I was clearly wrong, I don't know if it's been a long-shot by the director or he knows what he is doing, but I'm definitely going to watch everything he has done and it is going to do from now on.Everything is perfect, the supporting role(boyfriend) is like a Paul Rudd on gamma rays and becoming the Hulk of acting. He completely nails his performance and I couldn't say if more would be possible from anyone else in this movie.I was blew away and really thankful I picked this one.
