Chiller7 All these years later, I still look back on this as the best looking 3D movie experience I've seen.Ever since 3D has taken off, I think it's actually the wrong genre of movie (fast action movies) that tends to get the 3D treatment. Fast-moving objects, chaos on screen, and rapid cuts, typical of the action genre, are not ideally suited for 3D.For 3D to really look great, you need lots of long steady shots for the 3D effect to really soak in. This movie knows this. All the long-held shots of long dark corridors look amazing in 3D. Nothing looks better than seeing a monster all the way down at the end of the hallway and feeling the depth and distance of it all, something you'd never feel if you weren't seeing it in 3D.And when monsters or other objects pop-out of the screen directly at you, you know those shots were designed to be seen in 3D. This movie has plenty of all of that.Perhaps the most impressive effect of all was the very first shot, right at the start, when the foggy debris falls in front of you, the debris particles appear to be right in front of your face. That was super cool. And for the fans, this movie was actually filled with faithful adaptions and references to the game, which as a player of the games, was fun to see. For example, Carrie Anne Moss looks exactly like her character from the game. The main girl's American accent was a bit wonky, but she also was a pretty good embodiment of her character from the game. And who didn't enjoy seeing the such as the roasted dog on the dinner table?Don't make the mistake of expecting this movie to be something different than what it really has to offer. Think of this an amusement park haunted house ride with amazing 3D effects, not simply a normal movie, and you might just love it.
Riddick-x I will start by saying I liked the first Silent Hill, I felt they really did the series justice. Now we come to Silent Hill Revelation. This movie is total garbage, and written by hacks that think they know how to be intriguing. Good actors, bad acting, but I'm sure that has to do with bad writing and directing. For me there was no intensity to the movie, again because of bad writing, so nothing was scary, or unnerving. This is a huge turd of a film avoid at all cost.
jlthornb51 A visually awe inspiring production that will stagger one with its unbelievable intensity. While derivative of the first fantastic effort, Silent Hill, this 3D film still is successful at creating an atmosphere and environment so hellish it's almost too much to endure. Director William Bassett has a sure hand on the helm as he steers a course through the horrific landscape that defines that which is Silent Hill, seldom deviating from the magnificent course set by his predecessor. Ingeniously imaginative beyond anyone's worst nightmares, these are truly our most terrible fears gone mad, magnified a thousand fold, and an able cast does well in portraying the stricken victims of what must be Satan's vacation paradise. Stunningly created sets and creatures unprecedented in their ungodly uniqueness both amaze and repel us as we encounter one fantastically incomprehensible vision after another. Some of the power of this film, so visceral in its impact, must simply be experienced as mere words can never adequately convey the horror, the vision, the sheer unrelenting horror that is Silent Hill 3D.
bradman1118 The fact that this is a movie based on a video game, and a sequel to a great horror film that is directed by a different person made my expectations somewhat low, but I was interested to see for myself, especially since I loved the first one, and I have to say that, unfortunately, this film is deserving of all the hate that it gets. The special effects are decent, and the film does succeed visually. There were a couple good scenes and I liked the tone and the atmosphere. However, the story is so incomprehensible, pretentious, and dull, that it completely ruined the movie for me. The first film had a very strong story (I know some will disagree about that) but this one made no sense and therefore lacked any visceral elements of suspense or tension. The first film was strange, but in a good way. Silent Hill: Revelation is strange in a bad way and nothing makes sense. The acting is very bad, and some of the dialogue is cringe worthy. Perhaps what bothered me most is the lack of continuity with it's predecessor. This is clearly a direct sequel and takes place in the same universe as the first movie, but if that is the case, then why are so many things different? According to the FAQ on this site, the director, Michael J. Basset, didn't like the first film and he wanted to make this one more like the video games that it is based on. When making a sequel, it is okay to take a new approach and a new tone and style, but it should NOT be okay to completely disregard and negate what happened in the predecessor! The movie is not completely awful, again, the special/practical effects are good, and there is a fair share of blood and gore that will entertain some, but the awful story line, dull characters, and bad direction make me unable to recommend the movie solely due to the visuals. Silent Hill: Revelation is not worth watching.
