SlyGuy21 While I don't think it's as good as the second one, I'm glad I saw it a second time. I'll be the first to admit that I changed my opinion on this, and while I'd still like to read the comics as opposed to see this again, it is a fun sit. A few minor gripes here and there, like I think Clive Owen is miscast, and "The Big, Fat Kill" segment is the weakest of the three stories, but Rourke is great, and Willis is good. It's not as action focused as the second one, and relies more on narration, but it's an easy sit. A good example of how giving something a second watch can do wonders.
Bazan Beat This movie enters in the typical description of "style over substance". But what a style! the story is nothing over the top, but anyway, visually speaking its outstanding, specially if you consider that it was done in 2005, more than 10 years ago. Yeah, it have it's flaws and its very predictable but I think overall it is an acceptable film.
rockman182 I've been meaning to rewatch this film for quite some time. I'm a massive fan of Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror. The Grindhouse films that came out a few years ago was one of the greatest theater experiences I had. I recall being slightly disappointed with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For although it was still decent. After rewatching the film I feel just about the same about the first film; its a wonderful visual experience and wholly engaging. The film is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel and tells the tale of a few select characters. Themes of revenge and putting out crime are strong in this film. Its a neo-noir film shot in comic book style black and white with select color for some things (such as blood and the Yellow Bastard!). Its stylistically slick, an absolute joy to look at. The film is in noir form so we have the protagonist of each segment telling us what's going on. The film is detailed and violent. Sex blood and fighting reign supreme. The film has got a load of great characters and actors at the helm. Robert Rodriguez works with some names that he was linked with in the past. This time around I watched what I think was the extended cut of the film. Which I don't actually think was extended but rather each segment was in order with its parts and each segment had ending credits. It doesn't really change the experience of the film and is still just as enjoyable this way.I can see why Robert Rodriguez planned the sequel. His work usually do get additional films though they often end up being not up to par with the original. Unfortunately, this was the same with A Dame to Kill For. I actually would like to give a sequel a re-watch though as I may have more positive feelings about it at this time. All I know is that Robert Rodriguez should get credit for going outside the box with his work, sometimes it doesn't work but at least he attempts to be innovative.8/10
Leofwine_draca Robert Rodriguez assembles an all-star cast for this grimy, bullet-laden, and rather depressingly downbeat film noir offering, which offers slim, testosterone-fuelled plot lines and violence that brims over the edge at every opportunity. To say too much is to spoil the effect; suffice to say that the black and white movie looks brilliant, with engaging scripting and fantastic acting from the principal line-up, and really puts across the look and feel of a hard-knuckle comic book. The casting is brilliant, with only a dodgy turn from a miscast Clive Owen ruining things; Bruce Willis's hardbitten cop is another fine addition to his stellar career whilst an unrecognisable Mickey Rourke has his best comeback in ages. The girls kick ass and the villains are slimy; in particular the loathsome bad guys are the best parts in the film. There's Nick Stahl as creepy paedophile the Yellow Bastard; Elijah Wood as a fantastic cannibalistic serial killer, and finally Benicio del Toro as a slimy woman-hater. The violence is endless and bone-breaking, with limb-lopping galore and all manner of gruesome torture to engage the crowd. Not sure of the rewatchability of the piece but for the first viewing, SIN CITY is a breath of fresh air.
