adonis98-743-186503 Walter Weed is an unassuming desk jockey at the FBI when the Bureau uncovers a plot to assassinate him. A team of degenerate, psychotic assassins dispatched by mystery man Hal Leuco to win a huge bounty includes a resourceful beauty who has a unique method of killing her prey, a power-tool wielding psychopath and a deadly master of disguise. Smokin Aces wasn't a masterpiece and there were some ridiculous moments to it no doubt about that but it's definitely better than the awful sequel that it got. This movie has some of the worst green screen uses i have ever seen in my life, the characters feel like they were written by a 12-year old who loves fake cgi blood and naked women. Plus the first movie had better characters, cast and actors that could act in general like Ben Affleck, Chris Pine and Ryan Reynolds this one has none of that. (0/10)
Destroyer Wod I picked the first movie only because it had Ryan Reynolds in the lead. If the movie had a lot of shooting action, lots of characters and a bigger budget, the story was a mess and i really didn't like it.I picked this one, now who knows why, i guess because i kinda like Vinnie Jones, even if he is mostly hit or miss, as in sometimes he steal the show, other times he just has a small part and don't do much.I would say the movie is a lot better in term of story. It does not waste time too much on a million side characters and the main story is fluid and all. The action lack a bit tough in that one, surprisingly. The new characters are cool but i felt some of them where wasted past there introduction. I would had like to see a lot more of them.In any case a decent DTV release, nothing impressive tough, if you don't watch much movies i suggest you really pass this one, but if you are like me watching 10+ movies a week, and you can get it at a pawnshop.. then why not?I give it a 6 on 10 on my personal review chart, as it gave me a decent time, but did not impress me in any mean, so just a bit above the "par". But by IMDb standard and the weird rating of the peoples here, i would say a 4...
ajs-10 Having had this recommended to me by a friend, and having seen the first one, I was quite hopeful when I put the disc into the DVD player. Unfortunately, 84 minutes later I was looking for my friends' number to tell him never to recommend a film to me again! I think you can guess I was not impressed with what I saw.Walter Weed an ageing government analyst has had a hit put out on him. Several assassins have been invited to try and kill him on a specific date and at a very specific time. The FBI reacts quickly and moves him into a secure location in a bunker under a Jazz club in Chicago. The assassins, however, seem to have been appraised of his location and move in for the kill. It's every man, and woman, for himself and so there is no team play as they move in for the kill. With time running out, will any of them make it to the prize and collect the three million dollars on offer? I'll leave my short summary here.Apart from Tom Berenger as Walter Weed, none of the rest of the cast put in a decent performance. Maybe not entirely their fault because the script didn't really give them much to play with. The plot, as an idea, was quite clever, but if it had been made as a spy thriller instead of a stupid gun-fest I suspect it would have worked a lot better. I feel sorry that Tom Berenger has had to stoop so low, he deserves better material than this. Over all, really not recommended. My score: 5.1/10
thezombieking15 I feel like most of the votes for Smokin' Aces 2 were given without an actual viewing of the movie. I'll admit, as soon as I heard there would be a sequel (which turned out to be a prequel) I wasn't happy, and wanted to rate it badly myself. I feel as though most people shared my sentiment, but rated the film without actually watching it first. I feel it's at very least in the category of a 6, with the original Aces at at least a 7 on IMDb. I suppose viewers just don't feel the way I do. Now, about the film...Aces 2 was... different from the first film. Most notably, no real names here. Jeremy Piven and Ryan Reynolds are gone. It's a big loss, but if you consider Aces 2 to be a similar story without actually RELATING it to the first film, it becomes a lot more fun. Aces 2 has a style of it's own, different from the original. Where Aces 1 had smooth music and a flowing story, a style all it's own, Aces 2 has rock music and probably more swearing. The Tremors family appear again, but this time around, it's only Lester and a few others you could honestly care less about. The setup is entertaining, the shootouts are fair enough, and the humor (Tremors family related) is fun if you can get past the bizarre nature of it all. Aces 2 is far from realistic, and there are enough plot holes to sink a boat, but it really isn't a bad film. Certainly not intelligent like the first, but eh. Watch the film, don't relate it to the original, and at very least, WAIT for the ending. The final moments will make the entire film worth it, if nothing else.
