BiiivAL For me, as a fan of "Star Wars" since childhood, it was a real gift, even a surprise, because I did not expect that I would get to the show. What can I say: the series is "episode 3.5" - the plot is located between the "Sith Place" and "New Hope". In the first series, the creators have saturated the plot with the atmosphere of a "distant-distant galaxy". Every now and then, the imperial storm troopers and their commanders step on the screen, and this instantly causes nostalgia for the very first film of 1977. The atmosphere is just as gloomy, the characters are completely new (unlike the animated series "Clone Wars"), but this should not prevent loyal fans from enjoying a pleasant feeling. In addition, one of our old acquaintances, and possibly even two, has penetrated the premiere series. The protagonist who hates the Empire, the boy Ezra, is an orphan who survives by theft. By the will of fate, he encountered a small group of resistance, which does everything to annoy the despotic Empire. This group is the rudiments of a rebel alliance (in the series the famous symbol of the rebels flashes), and this meeting will forever change the life of Ezra ...The pilot "Rebels" is a story about friendship and a difficult choice, as well as about the sense of duty. This is 44 minutes, allowing you to plunge again into a familiar atmosphere (there was especially a musical accompaniment, similar to the creation of maestro John Williams), that already goose bumps are provided. Beautiful, eye-pleasing graphics remained at the same level as in Clone Wars. The action will be enough: chasing motorcycles (by voice acting and by drawing this scene can be called a reference to "The Return of the Jedi") and classic skirmishes on blasters, which so likes, which Han Solo trusts. In general, the pilot of the "Rebel" turned out to be very sound, memorable, interesting. And most importantly - the desire to watch has arisen after the first series (although in some serials, retraction occurs through several episodes). So I'll watch a new chapter of the ZV on, those more, I've been waiting for her very much. After all, after looking at Clone Wars, I wondered if the dark spot between the III and IV episodes of the saga would illuminate. That's the answer, and he's the most affirmative! Evaluation of the pilot Rebels (of course, apart from the series as a whole):10 of 10
trnewreck Devoid of most mature themes this is a good children's show...ONLYThe Lion King had more mature themes, so i know its possible to insert mature themes into kids shows.first off the best characters on this show are Kanan and Hera...and followed closely by returning mature characters, which i wont spoil...i say this since, they are written like real people would be... not spastic children with intermittent amnesia, which itself seems to be dependent on the laziness of the writers in that episode. The show is way too inconsistent, esra is by far the worst abuser of the writing style for this series, his character is constantly inconsistent in his Morales his skills, one episode he'l be wiser and opting to save people, the next he's willing to let people die of starvation because something is "hard". This is lazy writing, the writers ruin any growth of character and progress with esra by suddenly making him buffoonish or goofy for the purposes of, usually a small non essential plot point, same with sabine although to a lesser extent. The show is devoid of mature themes and good writing, and thinks it can excuse that by saying "its a kids show" huh-ha!... And it is an excuse for poor writing as some of the characters that appear in the show, young audiences would have NO CLUE who they are or why they are there...they are fan service for the older audience.doing as little as possible and still claim its a show for all ages, which the producers have claimed. That is primarily what bugs most of the people that are fans of the old show, and why you see such bad reviews for it here. If your a tiny baby child(8 or 7) or a parent looking for a good childs show for your son/daughter its excellent...no killing, no mature themes, just shiny colors and sounds.... it is Y7 rating after allif your even moderately literate and read sci-fi books as a 10yo+ (like i did, not many tbh) you will find it bland comparatively , that's probably the second most insulting part of the show its so dumb even for a kids show, its a bit of an insult to a child's intellectlike i said in the opening "the lion king" had more mature themes. it can be done, they're just lazy, look at the production values as well....the animation is ghastly, the recurring VO's omg! are just annoying i swear there are just 3-4 storm troopers in the whole universe and they all quickly run around the galaxy to wherever esra is."we want a good show, but we don't want to spend a lot of money on it" seems to be the motto...
sdmeshotto (THE ONLY GOOD EPISODES ARE LISTED AT BOTTOM)The biggest problem is the writing. The people who wrote this were the writers of the Clone Wars series, which, newsflash...was not a kids show. It was very dark and violent. Now they are given a TV-Y7 rating cap on it, and literally just don't know what to do with it. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind shows that are TV-Y7, when they are done correctly, ex. Transformers Prime. But this one is just done poorly. As a result of the TV-Y7 rating, there's rarely any deaths, with the only ones being off screen or implied, and the fighting is really bland. Also the empire is completely incompetent and serves no real threat. And its so campy. The writers have just resorted to thinking: "People are gonna keep watching it no matter how terrible it is." So they're just lazy. They never take any risks. (Except for the 5 episodes at the bottom)The worst part: The main characters. They're just so stupid and campy. Except Hera (twilek pilot) and Kanan (former Jedi knight) had really good potential and are still good characters, and I wish the series focused on them. Unfortunately, it focuses on Ezra. This whiny little kid who is force sensitive and can't make a single wise decision, not mention through all the series and his Jedi training, his character hasn't developed at all. Zeb (talking Chewbacca knockoff) is just annoying and one dimensional. Sabine (mandalorian...graffiti artist) had great potential but they ruined her too.The dialogue in this show sounds like it was written by a 9 year old. The animation sucks. All of people tell me to "give it time", like how "the first season of the Clone Wars and its movie had those same problems." The difference is...Clone Wars got its crap together by the end of its first season. Rebels is now at the beginning of the 4th season and it hasn't improved a thing. I just can't wait til its over.If you want to save your time and watch the only good episodes, here they are:S02 E01 Siege of Lothal ; S02 E21 Twilight of the Apprentice ; S03 E06 The Last Battle ; S03 E20 Twin Suns ; S03 E21/22 Zero HourSadly, these episodes have Ezra in them. Just try to ignore him. But these episodes have really powerful moments in them, its sad that the rest of the series sucks so much.
ischwensen 'Clone Wars', the predecessor to 'Rebels', had its drawbacks and not too few flaws. But it was watchable for an adult, or at least middle- to late-teen, Star Wars fan nonetheless. And it encompassed a large enough swath of the Star Wars universe to sometimes even be politically interesting - concerning this fictional universe's politics and history, mind you. 'Rebels' however falls short on all of these advantageous features. Other reviewers have rightly pointed out the meager quality of its animation. That doesn't bother me so much. Others bemoan that Ahsoka and Rex don't get enough story time allotted to them. Yes, true, but actually they should give Ahsoka her own spin-off because 'Rebels', at least how it was set up for this series, just isn't about her as a central character however much we like seeing her back in action. No, the single biggest permanently annoying flaw of 'Rebels' is its protagonist, young Ezra Bridger the terrible. While watching the show, by now being in the middle of season 3, I catch myself fairly enjoying all scenes he's not in. But since Ezra is the main character of the show, these better parts are spread out rather thinly. So, slowly but surely a certain aggression starts to build up towards this pesky figure. And the fun you're having watching a Star Wars series is severely diminished when you're hoping - more and more strongly - for the main protagonist to be killed off soon (or locked away in some remote boarding school, to keep this review civil). How come? It's easy to decipher how Ezra is designed as a character. Troubled conflicted teenager, reckless young male with a lot to learn but, of course, also with much potential, albeit driven by his inexperienced impulses, haunted by a difficult past, and so on etc. pp. All this done well wouldn't necessarily have predestined him to be such a glaring failure as a show's anchor. So, in my opinion, it is not his "design parameters" per se that pose the problem, but their execution. Ezra, as a person, is being served to us comprised from the same assortment of shallow clichés as nearly all the other characters in this show. But they don't have to carry more than half of 'Rebels'' screen time, and aren't as central to the unfolding story. And: they are not as stupid as Ezra is, or as annoyingly irresponsible in a very stereotypical, and foreseeable, way. I mean, most of the time the flaws of the main character of 'Rebels' serve as the episodes' main story driver. That soon proves to become a huge burden to the development, or evolution, of this series, also its likability. And speaking of which, 'Rebels' really doesn't succeed in endearing Ezra to me (us?) despite, or actually because of, his catastrophe prone behavior as in other shows employing the same plot device. No, Ezra endangering everyone around him for no good reason just proves himself to be a clichéd fool. Well then, how to rate a show where the main protagonist continues to be a bothersome jerk? I've decided to not overlook this big flaw in favor of the many smaller characters and other elements I do enjoy in 'Rebels'. And since I have also begun trying to be stricter in my ratings, even downgrading some older ones, so they may become more meaningful again, I settled, with a heavy heart concerning a Star Wars show, for a 5/10.
