For Tammy, a burger-joint employee, a bad day keeps getting worse. She wrecks her car, loses her job and finds that her husband has been unfaithful. It's time for Tammy to hit the road, but without money or transportation, her options are limited. Her only choice is a road trip with her hard-drinking grandmother, Pearl, who has a car, cash and an itch to see Niagara Falls. It's not the escape Tammy had in mind, but it may be what she needs.

candy_dreamscometruefilm While this film came out in 2014, I just saw it in 2018 because I am trying to see as many Melissa McCarthy movies as what appeals to me, so yeah, I am really late to the game. I happen to think that Melissa is a great comedic actress. I didn't know until I saw the beginning credits that she wrote this film. The storyline in itself is a good one, but what is it with her? Someone told me all her films were very trashy and vulgar. Is this why she has become so popular? I myself do not like trashy and vulgar movies. I like to enjoy clean movies with a storyline that stirs my emotions and leaves me thinking long after the movie is over. In addition to "Identity Thief" that I just watched today as well, "Tammy" is loaded with unnecessary "F" bombs and a handful of sexual innuendoes as well as the topic of homosexuality, all of which were unnecessary and added nothing at all to the film. But worse than those things is the constant usage of taking the Lord's name in vain, which as a Christian I don't tolerate. There is absolutely never a good reason to take the Lord's name in vain, especially in a film. I cringed every time I heard it and think I heard it about six times. However, because I had wanted to see this film for so long, and because I bought it on DVD, I decided to see it through. Because I am a Christian, someone told me I would absolutely hate this film, but I had already purchased the DVD, so I thought I would see it through. He asked me why I didn't read the reviews and the parental warnings before I bought it. Honestly, I had never thought of it. I watched the trailer and was hooked and wanted to see it because it looked very funny. My friend was wrong, I didn't hate it, I thought it was okay, but I will not be watching it again. Next on my Melissa McCarthy marathon list is "St. Vincent" as I'd like to find out why she is rated 27 on IMDb right now. The film had great production value and great DP work. The editing was also top notch. But because of all the things I did not like about this film, I can only rate it a four out of ten stars.
adonis98-743-186503 After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother. Tammy premiered Tonight on TV and just a few minutes ago i finished the movie and to be honest i liked it a lot. It does have the casual McCarthy humor i won't lie on that and for about 5 or 10 minutes the film was kinda terrible but i was surprised that it toned down the humor after a while, Melissa McCarthy does her usual stuff and she is fine but the film also touches a bit of Drama sometimes and i liked it a lot when it did that. Plus the 2 main leads McCarthy and Susan Sarandon do have a nice chemistry together, Kathy Bates is also really good, Mark Duplass brings levity to the movie and Dan Aykroyd is really funny. If i really had to choose between Tammy and the sh*tty Ghostbusters reboot i would choose this at least it's funny and even when it tries to be sad it succeeds plus the soundtrack is pretty cool. (8/10)
areatw The first few scenes of this movie are as funny as it gets, and even then it is only mildly amusing. I don't know why, but I still feel that 'Tammy' had the potential to be a very funny movie, but they managed to screw it up badly.I don't blame Melissa McCarthy - despite being thoroughly unfunny throughout, she has to work with what she is given, and what she was given was complete and utter sh*t. The script is awful, the directing extremely poor. They somehow even managed to make Tammy's Grandma, played by Susan Sarandon, a dislikable character, when she really shouldn't have been. Not good at all, especially for a road trip movie in which there were so many opportunities to make a funny and entertaining film.
Shopaholic35 Melissa McCarthy please no, just no. What made you ever think making this movie was a good idea. I wanted to be sick throughout the entire thing. On the upside the ending was really heartwarming and and I was rooting for Tammy's success. Unfortunately you subjected me to some pretty awful and traumatic things up until that point. With a cast so talented I expected better. The jokes were weak and nothing new and only gave me a few laughs. You used shock tactics to assault my eyes and ears while repeatedly demoralising yourself. Thank you for the attempt but you can do better. Please refrain from going down this pathway ever again.
