selenegan I loved this movie. From the moment I watched the trailer I was hooked, interested from the start. I loved the plot of the young eleven year old genius, and how even though he's smart, ever so slightly awkward, he's still caring to others, loving to his mother and brother and always thinks of the future. Of course, we all knew that the mom was the one executing the plan to save Christina since the trailer, but when I found out he died, I just cried and cried. Henry was extremely strong, both for himself and his family. But the only time I saw him cry, crying out for his mom, was during the last moment of his life. Where he cried to see the sky, when he calls out his mother, as mommy. In his last dying moments, I saw him very much a young boy. It was definitely heart wrenching to see. However, when I found out the plan was to KILL Glenn, I wasn't very thrilled. So I was extremely relieved that they saved Christina from her horrific abusive stepfather without breaking the law, or taking a life. As much as I love this movie, the ending where she confronts Glenn in front of the shed at night, was terribly dumb. He could've killed her instead! Snatched the gun, point it at her, and bam, she would've been gone. It was too easy, that the abusive stepfather decides to kill himself instead of going to the police. He has done everything to cover up his secret already, so how does shutting up a chatty neighbour who always talks about leaves, make a difference? All in all, it was an interesting plot, with very well developed main characters. The side characters didn't really do much in the movie. Even though I hate to see violence in a movie in general, I felt the plot of Christina and her abuse was downplayed too much. She barely had bruises, nor showed much signs of abuse. At most she seemed like a moody and quiet girl in school.Lastly, I have to say that the relationship between both sons and the mom is extremely touching. I loved their interactions, their loving nagging. The parental role switching from Henry to mom, and sometimes even to Peter when Henry was gone, was fun to watch. Although there were minor parts done wrong, there were definitely a lot of major parts done right. Would definitely recommend to people to watch!
bricslove Well the movie was no less a tale than those Watts's character writes. I love such tales. More a drama than a thriller, the level of genius of the elder son was a bit over the top... but this was more than its parts and overall a nice ride. And I just love Naomi Watts. The kids' performances were good, too. And of course the bad wolf. But Watts... Great choice, just great.I can go so far as to say this is a family flick.Don't watch the movie and then rate it low just because it's not the unpredictable thriller riddled with self-defeating twist bombs that you were wanting to watch. Just try other movies because this movie is basically drama.
Raymond I read about this movie and I thought I knew what I was watching, but still I quite didn't. It starts as an easy going dramedy, super smart boy with a little less smart little brother and their mother (no word about their dad? I must've missed it). I was already put off by the sheer stupidity of their mother. Watts plays a character that I find very hard to believe. Kind of like she plays a more stupid character than she really is.Then we find out that the single step dad next door might be abusing his step daughter. Super smart Henry feels something needs to be done. But quite quickly after this, Henry falls seriously ill - and dies, but we find out he made a plan for her mother to kill the step dad next door. Even tho he didn't know he was terminally ill. At this point the whole setup feels so absurd, but then the mother actually goes on to execute the plan. The whole movie is so very unbalanced. It plays as a light hearted comedy drama, but you have 11 year old main character die of cancer, incest / child abuse, suicide, you name it. This combo might work if it was made as a full throttle exaggerated fantasy, but the tone here is way too "normal" for such an absurd story.
jyuktirat This Movie will make you feel all the emotions with the characters. Overall, good movie.
