The Clean Bin Project is a feature documentary film about a regular couple and their quest to answer the question "is it possible to live completely waste free?". Partners Jen and Grant go head to head in a competition to see who can swear off consumerism and produce the least landfill garbage in an entire year. Their light-hearted competition is set against a darker examination of the sobering problem waste in North American society. Even as Grant and Jen start to garner interest in their project, they struggle to find meaning in their seemingly minuscule influence on the large-scale environmental impacts of our “throw-away society”. Featuring interviews with renowned artist, Chris Jordan and marine pollution expert, Captain Charles Moore, The Clean Bin Project presents the serious topic of waste reduction with optimism, humour, and inspiration for individual action.

sophiekarag I watched this film as i was interested to see how they would do it and who would win :) (my bet was on Jenny). It was so good to see the challenges they faced. I wouldn't have thought how hard it can be. We don't think of the everyday products we use like creams and toothpaste. After watching the film i went to my fridge and Cupboards and realised that everything has packaging and I was contributing to producing a lot of waste. From the strawberries i bought the other day that's in plastic to the cheese and meat! I was shocked to come to that realisation and vowed to start taking responsibility in what I buy and from where. It was a great inspiration to see the film and has helped me see waste in a very different way. Also I now feel guilty using the rest of the plastic bags i have for the bin. Highly recommend this film as a starting point.

Leigh Stratton I loved this film! Everyone should see it, in schools, work and at home. It was not only hilarious, but changed my life. We are now striving to be garbage free like Grant and Jenn. It was a very interesting film to watch as they progressed from "what the hell are we doing" to "this is easy, lets continue". I hear they are working on another film, can't wait to see it. I love the relationship dynamic between Jenn and Grant, what a great couple to have produced this film. I wish they would create an outtakes film from what didn't make the cut, I'm sure it would be outstanding. The fact that the film is set in Vancouver, Canada is great as I live here, but it shows how living garbage free in a big city can be easy, or have its challenges, whichever way you look at it.

Tom Murray The film shows that people can live comfortably, without acquiring much material destined for the ever-diminishing supply of landfills. A couple competed to see how little waste each could acquire in one year. During the year, they had to discover where they could purchase things that were not packaged and avoid things that were. Each collected about one waste-basketful. How much do you collect in a year? It informs us of the billions of pop cans discarded by Americans in one year and the huge numbers of other common items.The devastation created in the oceans, because of plastic waste, is also shown. On Midway Island, thousands of miles from the mainland, adult albatrosses fed in the ocean and then fed their babies. The stomachs of the babies became full of plastic and they died. This could result in the extinction of many species if we continue to despoil the oceans.I rated the film 8 out of 10 because it does educate the public about the danger of waste material created by man.
