TdSmth5 A gorgeous girl meets her boyfriend in some remote cabin. Then her dad arrives and drags her away. As they are driving he flips out--something about her becoming 18. He intentionally crashes the car but they survive. Then kills her with a piece of mirror glass.Next we meet a girl who starting some fancy boarding school. Her mom was institutionalized but the girl keeps having visions of her. At some point the girl starts having nosebleeds. She meets a guy who likes her, but his ex is still in the way. She makes friends with a Christian girl. Things get more and more complicated though. Her issues are attributed to a brain tumor which she then has removed. But she keeps having visions. The school shrink offers to help. One day though her vision turns out to be true. Her mom appears and goes after her with a knife. We learn a bit about something that happened during her pregnancy. The girl manages to ward off the attack but the mother falls and dies. Turns out the girl is about to have her 18th birthday. At this point friendly characters arrive but there are some twists. The Haunting of Molly Hartley covers familiar ground, but it does so without any attempt to get the viewer involved or interested. What could be exciting usually turns out rather tame and lame. Even the intro with the gorgeous Jessica Lowndes gets boring after a while. There's nothing particularly scary or exciting. Things move slowly and a bit predictably. One gets the impression that this is a G-rated movie more than PG-13. The casting of the bland Haley Bennett in the lead doesn't help a bit. Overall a fairly dull movie.
MattyGibbs Judging by the current rating of 3.8 I was expecting this to be awful however it was actually entertaining and although it wasn't anything new it was nowhere near the worst film I've ever seen. It does make me wonder exactly what people expect when watching films like this. The acting was pretty good for one of these types of films with Haley Bennett putting in a good performance in the lead role and Shanna Collins putting in good support. It's not a scary film and maybe the lack of many frights and gore put off many people. Although this is a film more about the story than the gore there are a few creepy moments and a less than predictable last 15 minutes. This is far better than the rating suggests and worth watching if your at a loose end.
KilRydLoad Oh, wait, I forgot, it's The CW now! This thing is anything but scary, just more teenage angst, high school girl backstabbing, gossiping...and I couldn't even figure out what kind of monster Molly was supposed to be. And every time she attacks or kills someone in the movie, she feels regret...after she's been attacked by those people! Hello?!? Why should she have to say I'm sorry after being picked on and defending herself? Danny Marianino of North Side Kings still to the day hasn't apologized for kicking Glenn Danzig's ass, nor should he have to after Danzig attacked him first! So why does Molly? Seriously, with Chase Crawford and that blonde chick from Hellcats(I think that's her, not sure, but it looks like her), it was like the CW trying to be scary. Oh, wait! The CW actually DOES have a scary show--SUPERNATURAL! Sadly, this movie was more new 90210 and Gossip Girl than Supernatural. Nothing scary about this at all--except what a letdown it was.
Angie Mobley This is not a movie that is scary in the sense that it will keep you up at night and have to leave all the lights on, but it's not a bad movie to watch. In my opinion, it's not cheesy or corny, or a "B" horror flick. The acting and actors, although not big stars, are good, the story is interesting and you're never really sure what the plot is until the very end. There are quite a few things throughout the movie that startle you and make you jump. The ending isn't bad. It's not a case of "same movie, different name" and it's not one of those movies that you feel like you just wasted an hour and a half and regret watching. I've definitely seen a lot worse than this.
