aquascape While "The Lego Movie" was a groundbreaking piece of animation history, "The Lego Ninjago Movie" does not add anything new to it's spiritual predecessor.Right now, Warner Bros. found the perfect formula to create Lego animations and any product that gets shelved in the Lego stores will turn up as a fully animated movie sooner or later, but that doesn't mean they will all be good. With that being said, "The Lego Ninjago Movie" isn't a bad movie, but an average one that can gain a few laughs from adults and children alike. One of the highlights of this movie was Justin Theroux's surprisingly good Will Arnett impression, for a minute there I swear I could hear Batman's voice! As for the plot, it didn't go anywhere and it felt like the writers were giving up halfway as far as the story was concerned. But nevertheless, a kid friendly movie and a good watch with the entire family.
markojulio I actually really liked this movie. The story's almost complete focus on Lloyd and his father was sad and heartwarming. I really felt sympathy for Lloyd. He was just a kid wanting to do right, but he was screwing up. Like in the scene where he's watching his friends getting destroyed by the cat and he's shouting and tearing up because he knows it's all his fault. That got me. Lord Garmadon was really funny and fun to watch. The themes of parents and father/son bond were nicely done. I do have faults, though. The rest of the characters were really pushed aside to make way for the Lloyd story. They had little to no development. The first half was really cheesy, basically formulaic. I figured they would be smart about it and point out the tropes and cliches but they never did. They just followed the formula. The animation, although beautiful and I still very much like it, doesn't feel entirely LEGO. The characters move more like animated characters and not legos, if you catch my drift. They're not as blocky and stop motion-like as seen in The LEGO Movie. This film definitely didn't need to be done in LEGO, it could've worked fine without that style. Which makes it less unique but not bad overall. In the end, I'm glad I saw the movie as someone who grew up watching the show. Speaking of the show, i don't mind that they took the movie in a different direction from the show. As Jackie Chan said in the beginning of the movie, this is the legend behind the legend of Ninjago. This is a new story from the one we already know from the show. "To truly see it, you must see it in a different perspective." I took this as the film telling us that we need to accept this movie as a new story different from the show.
MSB Reviews The LEGO Ninjago Movie is the third installment of the LEGO Movies' franchise, but unfortunately, it is also the worst. It does not have the same level of humor than the previous two films, the screenplay is a cliche story that everyone has seen a million times, the editing is choppy and even the animation quality seems a bit "blurry".The voice work performed by the cast is the saving grace, especially Justin Theroux (Garmadon), Jackie Chan (Master Wu) and Dave Franco (Lloyd). The music choices are kind of cool, some jokes do land and the action sometimes is entertaining, but not for enough time in order for me to rate this positively.Rating: C-
Taylor Bowe Mcardle After seeing the success of The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, You would surely think the Lego Ninjago movie would be just as good.....well not really. First off, Unlike the first two films this film just felt more like a big toy commercial instead of being an actual movie. The story basically copies the formula of what The Lego Movie had and it backfired. While it did have some cool action scenes in the beginning the whole thing starts to come apart piece by piece afterwards and just can't recover. The Lego franchise would eventually have a film that would leave a dent in it's armor and Ninjago is the Weakest Link...Goodbye
