HerbieStretch This came out at roughly the same time as Meet the Spartans. What a double whammy that was. For a while I thought my brain would turn to gray slime. There's corny and there's corny. This was a 12 course meal with corn at every serving and with cardboard being the only other ingredient. It felt like Mike Myers had gone off into his own little Mike's World which bore little resemblance to what anyone else found funny. Maybe its too much to expect one man to keep churning out gems like AustinPowers and WW which were undoubtedly good and original. Love Guru. An attempt to satire the self help, new age, spiritual movement's big-hitters and money-makers. A good target maybe. Maybe not. It certainly didn't expand into a good movie. Being 6 years ago I thankfully don't remember much about it. I do remember my 13 year old son being as baffled as I was. Films like this actually get made? People get paid to do it? And they're experienced film makers, not High School students? Life isn't how we imagined it.
thesar-2 I would call The Love Guru the worst comedy on record if there weren't so many Adam Sandler films competing for that same recognition.Mike Myers should've seen this coming. He made the glorious Austin Powers. He voiced the everlasting Shrek. He made me laugh for decades with Wayne's World. I know he was trying something new here, but he should've put a stop to it before it started rolling.I'm not even going to get into the "offensive" category he set up. If anything, I'm offended that he thought ANY of this was humorous.Admittedly, and I will not lie, I did laugh when the title character fights a chicken – sorry, I mean COCK. That was funny, believe it or not. Wait, that and the "Gamblers Anonymous Casino Night" line. Okay, those two scenes that took up 15 second of the 87 minutes were hilarious. The rest should be avoided at all costs. I watched this ONLY because it was featured in the How Did This Get Made podcast lineup. IF you must, watch this first, then listen to their hilarious take on it.Otherwise, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT…stay away. This is an awful movie with so many things wrong with it that I don't want to spend another second on…* * *Final thoughts: A coworker continuously states: What CAN'T Justin (Timberlake) do? I responded: Not save this movie.
Greg Francis I have waited 6 years to watch this movie last night because EVERYONE said it was so terrible. And they were right, it is a complete mess and easy to see how the combination of this movie and Cat in the Hat ended his career. Myers loves to try and force musical numbers into his movies and even those make no sense here. To open he plays 9 to 5 on a sitar, HOW do you chose that song? It makes absolutely no sense, not ONE person in the entire movie has a regular job. Is that supposed to be ironic? Whatever, like almost everything in the movie, it falls completely flat. Very few laughs in this movie. Probably the funniest thing is remembering how hot Myers was at the time this movie was made, hence being able to get some decent celebrity cameos. If he asked Crewman #2 from an original Star Trek episode to be in his next movie now, he wouldn't even get a call back lol. Probably my favorite joke is using the name "Mariska Hargitay" as a greeting like they say in Arabic, then having her actually appear while they are saying it. Gaffigan and Colbert as the hockey announcers had some funny moments, purely on their own comedic abilities. Other than that, the list of failures is long and depressing. Making fun of French Canadians, the guru presentation and lessons, the cameos, little person abuse, Myer's accent and his annoying facial hair, the fight with the "guard rooster", and so on. If you love hockey and want to see a Bollywood song and dance number at the end, you might be able to tolerate this movie, but that is a MIGHT.
Justin Basquez (thebasquez) I liked the "blowme" scene so I added a star... besides that I never really like Mike Myers a whole lot so this was just the movie that made me dislike him. This shouldn't be called, "The Love Guru" it should be called, "Unfunny penis jokes, by Mike Myers."You know that guy Marco Schnabel? Sounds familiar... oh its the guy that directed the movie!... well see yeah. Hope you had a nice career. *flushes toilet*Okay seriously, I didn't like Austin powers, I didn't really ever totally liked Mike Myers.... so its not like this movie wasn't a disappointment so I gave it another star so it would be above my other bad ratings...You see I dislike bad writers, like Mike Myers, who think they write good movies that are bad... THEN CONTINUOUSLY DO IT!M. Night Shyamalan is by far worse, so bad, I seriously gave "Birdemic" a better rating then Avatar the Last Airbender the movie...I'm doing the same with this movie, no disappointment, 1 funny joke, ehhhhhh 3/10
